I had a really wierd return situation today; wanted to know if anyone ever had this before. The other week when the gas card deal was on, I was buying 2 Loreal items and 2 physicians formula items. I used coupons and ECBs to pay. My first clue should have been something was wrong when I tried to use 2 Loreal mq's; the register said something to the effect that the coupon number was exceeded; I was puzzled that I couldn't use 2 Loreal q's for 2 items. I had one nail polish and one eye shadow and was using 2 of the CVS Loreal tear pad q's. The mgr at this store never has a clue said they were cracking down on use and you could only use 1. I knew that wasn't correct but said okay. When I left I looked at the receipt and the amount toward that reward was short. It also didn't take 50% off the 2nd Loreal item so I was really puzzled. What I noticed when I got home was that the eye shadow was actually Maybelline (sp?) and not Loreal. Explains why it didn't take 50% off and why it didn't take the MQ. Someone had obviously put it in the wrong display cause that's where I took it from. My mistake obviously so I bought the correct items and finished it another day, and said I'd return it when I got back to that store. Went to return it today and the register wouldn' t let it. The cashier showed me that it read something to the effect that there were no items left on the receipt to return. The guy asked me if I returned anything on that receipt and I told him it was the first and only thing. He said it wasn't like it said the item wasn't found; it said everything had been returned. Being it was sunday, I couldn't call customer service; which I will do tomorrow. Wierd. I never had that before. Did anyone else?

Did you pay anything with a cash card by any chance? I havent had that issue but I have had some return/ exchange issues. I dont really know what has popped up on their screen as they havent shared with me so what i wrote about was from my perspective. I told him what the situation was when I handed him the return and before he tried to process it, he said he would probably have to issue me a gift card and I said that was fine. It's just a pain cause I really don't have time for this; especially when I know it's a mistake cause I didn't return anything on the receipt. Thanks for your reply; will post what I find out.

wow ..This really caught my attention. If I had this exact same situation... I would be taking high blood pressure medication or something. Whats going on with managers and cashiers this year when it comes to coupons? It feels like war or something? Are they trained to have/show prejudice towards people using coupons? Its a waste of time to a solution that could have been met sooner. Looking forward to what you'll find out. |

This is VERY strange. It is like they voided out the transaction after you left. I am curious about what CS will say.

I'd save myself the hassle & return it without a receipt, in exchange for a gift card. I know that's probably YMMV but my CVS would do it.

But the store said they have to do a return; could not do it as an even exchange. The few times I have done it was a major production, and a different answer each time to do the same thing (an even exchange); so I don't buy anything with the intention of exchanging it for another color at a future date. I called CS and the person I spoke with was very nice; but she couldn't figure out what the problem was by what I was telling her. I though she could see the transaction by me giving her the info on the receipt, but she said she couldn't. She is passing the info on to the District Mgr and having her call me within the next day or two; so will report back when I hear from her. Thanks everyone for your replies!

I had the register beep today saying coupon limit exceeded- but t made no sense because I was only buying one of the thing I had the coupon for. Cashier said they have been getting a lot of those errors lately. |

I agree with you! I recently found out there is no such thing as an "even" exchange. I had to deal with an entire return and then re-buy. It became more of a hassle than I thought. Quote:

Customer service had told me on Monday that I would hear from the district mgr by Wednesday. When it was Thursday afternoon and I hadn't heard from anyone, I called CS back. They showed that the DM had spoken to the store mgr and she told him to call me; but again, I hadn't heard from anyone. So the CS rep put me on hold to call the DM. After a long time on hold, the CS rep came back and said the DM told her to call the store mgr again. She called him; again I was on hold a long time. She came back and said the store mgr said that when I was in there, the assistant mgr tried to push the transaction/ return through, but it wouldn't go. ??!! I never saw an assistant mgr at the store; it was a clerk/cashier; and no one tried to push anything through. I told her; she put me on hold to go talk to him again. She finally came back; said the mgr said I could come to the store and he would issue the return on a gift card; fine with me. Then she told me the next couple of days the hrs he'd be there; between 4 and 6 pm. Definitely not hours I would be there; so I told her. She came back again and said he said the assistant store mgr would help me. I went the next day; no assistant mgr or mgr was there. I explained the whole story to her; she said she would return it as if I didn't have a receipt even though I did. When I was on that phone call for over a half hr, every time I was put on he hold, all I kept thinking was I should have just done the return without the receipt like people suggested; rather than go through all that time. Still would have liked to know what had happened; it was so strange. I was disappointed the way the DM and SM handled it; I had to keep after them and waste alot of time.
