We had one for the Cash Cards so it'd be a good idea to have one for the gas cards, too, since many questions are already coming up.

As always, if you have questions or suggestions for a specific deal please post it in the Free/Cheap thread for that week.

Most of this knowledge is coming from last year when they had the same promotion. So there may be slight changes and we'll update ASAP as I learn them.

1) The ad lists Exxon and Shell. Last year different areas got different companies. You really don't know what they have until they pull them out and show you what they got.

2) A voucher will print on your receipt just like an ECB that you can immediately turn around and redeem for the $10 gas card.

3) Gas card vouchers CAN NOT be force printed by a cashier or a manager.

4) No Rain Checks.

5) Limit is 5 Gas Card deals per week per ExtraCare card.

6) The 98% rule applies to gas cards as well so totals as low as $29.40 will trigger the voucher.

7) For every $10 gas card you earn $10 will be deducted from your quarterly spending tally when the $10 voucher is redeemed.

Now, the YMMV stuff. I hesitated to include this but I thought I ought to so people can be prepared

1) Managers and cashiers cannot force print the gas card voucher. If something glitchy happens and for some reason your voucher doesn't print SOME managers may force print $10 ECB for you. Others may make you call customer service.

2) SOME areas only had gas cards for companies that weren't even in their area so SOME managers were offering ECB or CVS Gift Cards in lieu of gas cards.

3) If a store runs out of an item that is a part of the gas card promotion SOME stores will offer a substitute and force print ECB. This is mostly for items where a substitute it reasonable like switching out paper towel counts or brands of water.

4) SOME managers will give rain checks for gas cards. This isn't the exception - not the rule - and goes against the written print in the ad stating rain checks will not be issued.

Again, this is ALL YMMV. It should not be expected or demanded.

Personally, I love gas cards, you are going to spend money on gas anyways so for me it's like spending money at CVS instead of at the gas pump Some people don't like that you can't roll gas cards but you can always give them away, trade them on here for coupons or other gift cards, or sell them on ebay for pretty close to their value. As Trish also mentions below it's a great way to convert your ECB to something similar to cash and they never expire! And Robbo mentions you don't have to use them on actual gas - you can purchase items inside the gas station with the gift cards!

People should remember that earning a gas card will reduce quarterly spending by the amount earned. This came up a lot last summer and with the cash cards.

I am so excited about this because I have SO many ECB and I'd like to un-tie some of than money and reduce the pressure to use them before they expire!

Probably not. In only in rare circumstances that they allow that. You can always ask but they will most likely say no.

If you don't drive or otherwise don't have a need for the cards personally, I think they make great gifts... you can also use them for stuff inside the gas station. I gave DH a few last year and told him to STOP USING THE DEBIT CARD ALREADY to buy a pop or a donut every other day. It's so annoying to fish through 800 transactions of $1.27 to find something I'm looking for

Excellent point as I used my gas station cards last year for anything but gas. and this was mainly because about 2 miles down the road in another state gas is usually about .15 to .20 cents cheaper a gallon.

This is a great thread! Great to know you can use them for snacks, etc from the gas station stores. I will be dedicating at least one card to buying newspapers, for those extra special weeks where our local papers will carry extra coupon booklets. That way I dont pay for subscription and dont come out of pocket when good coupon weeks roll around.

I've got some large number ECB to use up, and wasn't couponing when these deals came out last year so this is my first time (yay!), if I do a transaction with $60 worth of qualifying items, will it print two $10 vouchers, or do they have to be done in separate transactions?

Pretty sure you can mix and match whatever you want as long as they're included in the promotion

On gas card deal if you are buying a product that is under the gas card deal and it is BOGO do you only count the price of one product or do you count the cost of both? Example Stayfree is on sale BOGO 3.99 do I just count one or do I count both towards the $30? Thanks in advance
