| What order do I give coupons in....
Or does it not matter? I have a raincheck for Gillette Custom B2G1, BOGO manu coupons, $3/15, 20% off and 25% off.

| I have noticed that when I give ECB before Q that they will take off the full value of Manf Q even if it puts you in the negative ... You will have to add something to your total to bring out of the negative but its nice that it will pay for the sales tax I had this happen today was 58 cents negative had to add some cheap candy to bring me out |

This really isn't cut and dry. With taxes being different in each state some find the order matters while others believe it doesn't. Personally, I hand over in this order: Rain Check $/$$ % off MQ CRT ECB

It doesn't matter what order you put them in. The sales tax is based on what your state law is not how coupons are handed over. Trust me the Department of Revenue for your state is smart enough to fix that problem already. The State of Florida even sued CVS over not collecting sales tax on pre-ECB/coupon amounts (yeah the state won that one).

The sales tax will be the same amount, but handing over your coupons in right order in some states, you can get a negative subtotal, which will result in your grand total less than your sales tax.

It's eats up my OOP. When I've given the mqs first followed by cvs qs, and lastly my ecbs, id often run into issues with them not taking my ecbs at all Sent from my iPhone using AFullCup

Yep, example: Purchases of $20 will result in about $1.6 sales tax here |

But, if I hand over the mfr coupons after, I can use up to $16.6 extra bucks to pay, and no need to dig in my pocket for the tax. If the $20 purchases are all sale price, and your card is scanned after ringing up any item, it probably wouldn't matter which order. |

Take 2, my phone ate my first response ![]() When I first read this thread I thought the computer won't allow this to happen in certain states. I am in a pre-q tax state and there is no getting around it. The more I thought about it, though, the more I began to wonder. Here is my not-fact-based-in-any-way logic through it. Sample transaction: Item total/subtotal: $10 Tax: $.70 Total: $10.70 Qs $3/1 $2/1 $1/1 $5 ECBs By giving MQs first the ECBs will be reduced to $4 and tax will create OOP of $.70 However, if you do the ECBs first: Same sample transaction Item total/subtotal: $10 Tax: $.70 Total: $10.70 $5 ECBs - should take off full value because your subtotal is still $10 MQs - they should each take off full value because they are linked to the products. If you have $2 worth of Hersheys in your transaction, the MQ would take off $2 regardless of the total balance. Even though they aren't listed as linked on the receipt, they are linked. If your Hershey total was $1.99, the computer knows to have the $2 coupon adjusted down, thus the link. (This is also how a % off q can create a MM. Even though the Hersheys would be $0 after MQ, a 20% q still would give you $.40 off your total.) The fact that the ECBs took off the total has no effect on the MQs because ECBs are not linked to items, they aren't coupons. So by doing the ECBs first and receiving full value, your total after ECBs and MQs in my sample transaction would be -$.30. Use a filler. ETA: One more thought: the computer could keep tax separately so if I gave the ECBs first and created a negative balance, my tax may still be added on to a zero balance and total $.70 OOP. But I could then use a $1 filler to take up the negative balance so I would essentially get an additional $1 worth of product by changing the order. I hope that all made sense! Where are my flaws guys??

I went in yesterday, I had MQ's, 2 $3/$15's, ECB's and a 25%. I told the cashier I wasn't sure what order to give them to him, I just held onto the ECB's because I usually do those last, I didn't think it mattered. All I know is he said that the % Q goes last, if it doesn't get taken last it will automatically void it and adjust it to a % off the total due AFTER ALL COUPONS. It doesn't matter if you give it first, it's not that you can't do that BUT it will show up as an incorrect % at that point. For example, he took my % Q and I was still holding my ECB's because like I said I do those last. It showed up as $4.99 coming off with the 25% Q. Well I then handed over my 9 ECB's and the computer automatically voided the $4.99 and it changed to $3 something. In the end, after all is said and done, the % that is taken off will be off of the total amount after coupons/ECB's....of course assuming everything is regular price. This is just what I was told, he was very nice about all of it. I have no idea how "right" he is, just passing along what I was told ![]() As far as the rest, MQ's, $/$$, ECB's. I still don't personally know what the difference is. I've never seen an MQ adjusted it if wasn't given in a particular order. I need to pay closer attention and test it out with identical transactions and 2 different cards and Q's in different orders just to see for sure. Last edited by tagarza; 04-19-2012 at 05:28 AM. |

Ok to clarify about my post you are definantly charged the sales tax at least here in Florida no matter what But as someone else said if you do your ECB's first the full value of them will be used and the MQ can actually pay for your sales tax for you I have a calculator and piece of paper tracking the items I am purchasing so I can figure out exactly what ECB's I need to use |

For no real reason I've always given mq's first then ecbs and I've gotten a negative balance and have had tax paid by those ecbs..

Hmmm, I might try doing ecb first and mq last this week. Hope everything goes well! Tax is nearly 10% here so this may reduce my oop I did have a cashier try to use my ecb's first and I told him to use my coupons first !

I am in a pre-MQ state. I tried doing ecbs first today and the MQs did cover tax. I ended up with a negative balance so I grabbed a pack of gum. Now I have to figure out if this is okay or not the right thing to do.

I read somewhere to always give cvs qs first so I started using my mf q's last; with proper planning I have had zero balances (only twice) and negative balances where I've had to add in a pack of gum or something. Before doing it that way I was never able to get my balances so low.

I tried it today and ended up with overage on the first trans. even though I didn't even use any MQs. And my second trans. was much larger but I ended up paying only a few $ OOP where in the past it would have been much higher.

I tried this today also. So for all of us taxed states Use ecbs, cvs Qs then mfr Qs. Even with negative total the register still took of 25% that was on my card. I just bought some gum to make up for it.
