Hey all!!!!! I went to CVS today to get my 8 free cans of Campbell's soup. Apparently the .50 each deal is only for tomato and chicken noodle fyi.Anyhoo, while I was looking around, I found 3 things of clearanced Pampers for $3.15 each! Course being a couponer I had $3 coupons with me that I wanted to use. Well, the cashier informed me that CVS will not accept coupons period on clearance or "taxible items." I asked for the manager and she said she was the manager. So I asked her to please keep them behind the counter and I'd be back after I confirmed that with corporate. I've been told this by other cashiers at the store but others will accept them, so I really wanted to know what the policy is. I drove home to call corporate (didn't have cell on me) and I spoke with Carin (pronounced Ker-in.) She was upset that the store wasn't following corporate's policy of accepting coupons on all clearance items. She called the store to inform them of the corporate policy and also made a report with the district manager! ![]() I drove back to the store and got my diapers with my coupons YAY! Score 1 for the couponers! I just thought I'd share my story with everyone in case you've ever been not allowed to use coupons on clearance stuff. BTW-one of the coupons inside my packages expired in '08 ![]() And I can't tell how expired those diapers were b/c the date is smudged off.

Good for you for getting your good deal! That's awesome that corporate 'had your back'. ![]() Oh, and I think that diapers don't really expire as long as you don't let moisture get to them. I know I've got 85 packs in the closet that better hold out until baby #2 grows into them. LOL

Yes, CVS does accept coupons for clearance items and it is great that you got customer service to confirm that. The big confusion on all of this at the stores comes from the way CVS handles running their clearance items through the register. CVS doesn't scan product barcodes (for the most part) on clearance items. They will either take a magic marker and strike through the barcodes or just put the clearance price stickers over the barcodes, rendering them unreadable. So when a clearance item is rung up, it is simply hand keyed as a taxable item(generic description) and the price is hand entered. That's fine and dandy until whoever is cashiering then tries to scan your coupon for the clearance item. Because the register never actually read what was being purchased (in your case, pampers diapers) it thinks you are fraudulently using that pampers coupon and puts up a prompt for the cashier to reject the coupon. Not because you can't use it--but rather because ith just doesn't know that you actually did purchase the corresponding product and needs a real person to tell it that everything is okay and it can accept the coupon. See, it's the register's fault. Not the cashier's! ;-) |

Thanks for sharing! My store also refuses to take coupons on the clearanced item. I even asked the SM about it. Having worked in retail for years in the past, I understand the register not recognizing the coupon, because the item was not scanned, but keyed in. I just wish they would explain the reason why they can't/won't take the coupon better. The explanation that it's a taxable item, makes no sense to me, because all the items I bought were taxable. (I know that's just their lingo for we had to hand key it in under a taxable item, and the register doesn't recognize that you bought that item) Anyway, just smiled and accepted her answer, thinking am I the only one that thought...Huh?
