Question Transferring RX?

How do you all go about transferring a RX exactly?

Say I have a written prescription. Do I take that to a the pharmacy I used to use and hand it in telling them that I'll pick it up later rather than wait. Then I go to CVS and ask them to call and get it transferred??? Seems weird.

But if they won't use my coupon for the $25 GC on a transferred RX today on a new prescription I want to figure out a way to get that GC!

You mean you would just drop it off at the old pharmacy and then never pick it up?

I transfer it by just bringing the medicine bottle from the old pharmacy to the CVS pharmacy. Your CVS might be willing to give you the $25 GC for a new prescription, (mine did) so you can call and ask before you get it filled and paid for at the old pharmacy.

My CVS pharmacy doesn't make me jump through hoops to get the $25 GC if all I have is a coupon for a transferred prescription and I have a new prescription. They know that I can just as easily walk out the door with the prescription and find another pharmacy that is willing to fill it and give me the $25 GC.

So, I show them the new prescription and ask them if they'll accept the coupon for the new prescription. If they care about keeping me as a customer (which they do), they'll smile, thank me for bringing in my new prescription and gladly offer the GC. With the huge nationwide campaign that CVS is running to get pharmacy business, I can't see them turning away a new prescription...

Well, that is exactly why it seemed weird to me. But if I fill it at my usual pharmacy then I have to wait a month until I need a refill to get my GC, don't I?

I went in and asked if they'd give it to me for a new prescription and they said no.

that is exactly what i do...say if Kmart is the pharmacy that i have the gift card offer for, then i take my written perscription piece of paper and go to say CVS but i hand it to them and say "i just want you to go ahead and put this one in the computer but i am not filling it right now"....then i usually wait a few hours and then go to Kmart and say that i want to transfer my perscription from CVS and they call CVS and have it transferred....never been a problem

The wording on the coupon I have says " Receive a $25 CVS/Parmacy Gift Card when you new or transferred prescription is dispensed." So I assume that means new scripts too.

I had a Rx that I took in to my old pharmacy and asked them to put it on hold until I needed it. They said no problem. I waited a day until I had my coupon, then transferred it without problem.

May I ask; did you get this in the mail; or where did you get the coupon for the CVS gift card? Thanks in advance!

Don't know if this will help you or not, but I used a Rite Aid coupon for the same $25 GC w/Rx transfer because my CVS excepts competitor's coupons for pharmacy only. The Rite Aid coupon was printed in their weekly circular that comes in the Sunday paper (usually 2 coupons per circular). They've been coming out quite frequently too. So if you get that circular in your area, it would be worth it to ask your CVS if they accept competitor's coupons at the pharmacy.

I got it in the mail - last week, I think. Maybe the week before. Unfortunately, CVS is already my pharmacy, so I can't transfer anything...

Cvs Pricey

I used the ECB for the $25.00 gift card when you transfer and what I pay $4 for at Walmart, CVS charged $10. I still came out ahead, but that is a big price hike. DH said that is why they can offer a $25 gift card.
