| CVS coupon policies and managers "discretion" on Q's
A while back someone mentioned that a mgr told them there were "franchised" stores and that managers had the discretion to refuse any coupon they wanted to. While they do it seems have the discretion, they are not franchised. Thought ya'll might be interested. Iwrote to CVS and here is the response I got the only thing I removed was my name. Dear : Thank you for taking the time to contact CVS/pharmacy with your inquiry. Please let me apologize for the inconvenience. All CVS store are owned by stock holders. CVS does not franchise. I’ve provided our coupon policies. The Store Manager’s do have the discretion to refuse coupons or limit them. Please let me know if I can be any further assistance. CVS/pharmacy will accept coupons printed from the Internet. They must have a legible barcode that scans at the register. If the coupon does not scan at the register, the cashier should politely inform you that we are unable to accept your coupon. We do not allow manual overrides at the register for coupons printed from the Internet. Our registers are set to allow 1 CVS coupon and 1 manufacturer coupon per item. However, the staff should be allowing customers to use Extra Bucks in combination with other CVS coupons since these are coupons you have “earned.” In addition, similarly they should be allowing the use of “offer at the register” coupons which would be an open offer of $3 off of $15 or a certain dollar amount off of a specific item. Since our registers are programmed to only accept 2 coupons (1 CVS, 1 manufacturer) per item if the number of coupons exceed the items purchased a member of management will need to assist the cashier in processing the coupons. I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. You can use coupons towards a clearance item but the coupon will be adjusted if it is more than the price of the item. The BOGO coupon allows you to purchase 2 items and get them both for free. With the manufacturer’s coupons you can combine one with one CVS coupon. You will be responsible for any tax due. If I can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for taking the time to contact CVS/pharmacy. Sincerely, Chris CVS/pharmacy Customer Relations #6422463

Thanks for the update. This is important info, since I've had some cahiers tell me "only 1 Q per item, period!" Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks for the info! I hope you don't mind if I print this out. I haven't had a problem at the CVS I go to, but you never know when this will come in handy. |

Thanks for the link to the letter. I'm going to print it out in case I have a problem in the future. I think I'm going to stick to my usual CVS anyway where the cashiers love to see what I can save and are amazed and don't throw me that look like I'm doing something wrong and actually taking "their" money. hehe

This is great! I just e-mailed CVS about 4 days ago regarding their coupon policy. The manager was telling me that an extra bucks coupon is considered a CVS coupon and you can only use 1 manufacturer coupon and one CVS. Since when is our earned extra bucks considered a coupon? So I couldn't use my extra bucks to pay down my total. Still waiting to hear from somebody from CVS. Maybe I'll get the same letter ( )! Reps to you, I printed your letter so I can have it on hand.

Thank you. I just posted a thread in the Gripes and Groans thread about a problem I had at CVS today. I am glad I found this thread so I can print it out and take it to the store next time I use an IP coupon: http://www.afullcup.com/forums/gripe...right-now.html

Thanks. Sadly, I actually had to use this today and I have NEVER had a problem with the two CVS stores I go to. ![]() The young man working at the one I don't go to as often informed me I couldn't use a CVS & MFG coupon together.

| thanks CVS cashiers and managers
Thank you for coupon policy. My CVS is awesome most of the time. My ECB's wouldn't scan one day and so the cashier added them up and entered a store coupon for $37.91!! I didn't think the register would allow it but it did, no problem. Every once in a while I get that one cashier who thinks I'm taking money from her/his pocket so this may come in handy. But overall, hats off to the CVS cashiers/managers out there.

I emailed cvs after a cashier would not give me a raincheck for the Right Guard. She said that cvs did not give rainchecks for items that produce ecbs. Today I got an answer about the problem -it is up to the store manager whether or not they issue rain checks for items that produce ecbs. I guess I am going to have to take my business to walgreens!

| I was talking to assistant manager of one of our CVS stores today about competitors coupons. He told me they take all competitors coupons and will price match. He also said the competitors coupon can be combined with MQ and you should get the ECB's if offered. He said they may have to force them but they would do it. I was specifically talking about Target but he mentioned Walgreens. Thinking of having them price match Walgreens Kotex price this week, $2.99, and using Targets $2.00 off any Kotex coupon to get tampons for $.99. If what he told me is true, this should work.

I love the one small CVS in my town. The folks are super friendly and don't mind at all processing multiple transactions, issuing rainchecks or helping me find items. They are patient and helpful. When I use a raincheck they make sure they do it right and force my ECBs to print. One cashier told me a few days ago that they accept competitor coupons (I used a Target and their isn't a Target within 50 miles!) and today the asst manager told me that CVS honors all of their expired CVS coupons. She said that a while back they were told not to accept them any longer then recently the policy to honor expired ones was reinstated due to customer complaints. I needed $1.50 to get up to $20 to use one of the great $4/$20 Qs in the CVS booklets and was able to use an expired buy 2 get $1 off CVS candy. So save all of those extra CVS Q booklets you are able to get because you should be able to use them later! |

Clear as mud. I shot CVS and email about trying to use a Rite Aid coupon last week. Here's the response. Got to say, though, they even followed up with phone call, so I was pretty impressed. "Dear Ms. Kelli Collin, Thank you for contacting CVS regarding our coupon policy. I am happy to help you. Ms. Collin, I apologize for any confusion. CVS/pharmacy will only accept competitor Pharmacy coupons. We do not accept front store competitor coupons at CVS. Below is our store coupon policy; CVS/pharmacy does accept manufacturer’s coupons that have been obtained from an approved Web site sponsored by the manufacturer. The coupon should be complete and contain a bar code that can be scanned at the register. Please feel free to visit www.cvs.com and go to the "Save With In-store Coupons" box and click on "start printing now". To print coupons, check the box next to the Clip! icon, (or click "Select All Offers") and then click "Print Now". Please note that these coupons can be redeemed at CVS/pharmacy stores only and all manufacturer requirements must be met. Our registers are set to allow 1 CVS coupon and 1 manufacturer coupon per item. CVS Extra Buck coupons are earned when you make a qualifying purchase. These print out instantly at the register upon reaching the threshold for the offer. Free coupons or “offers at the register” are unearned and issued to you as a valued member of the CVS/pharmacy ExtraCare program. These coupons take the form of “open ended” coupons such as $3 off $15 or a certain dollar amount off a specific item. In any given transaction our registers will allow only one “open ended” coupon per transaction and more than one Extra Buck coupon provided the purchase threshold has been met for each offer amount on a per-transaction basis. In the case where a particular item is on sale for “buy one get one free” (BOGO), you are only allowed to use one manufacturer’s coupon. For instance, if Revlon lipstick is on sale for BOGO, you can use one manufacturer’s BOGO coupon. You would get both items free & pay any applicable tax. When an item is on sale for buy one, get one free and the customer has a buy one get one free coupon for that same product, the coupon will be accepted and both items will essentially become free (plus any applicable sales tax). Also, two manufacturer coupons can be used on a buy one get one free purchase as long as two items are scanned at the register. The system logic sees two items scanned and will allow two coupons. The Store Manager can limit quantities. Again, Ms. Collin, I apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for contacting us. We value your loyalty and look forward to serving you in the future. Have a great week! Sincerely, |
