Coupon Policy Change

I found this out this morning. Effective immediately Cub will no longer accept coupons 90 days past the expiration date. They will take them only 30 days past the expiration date. Apparently the clearing house that Cub sends the coupons to has changed their policy to not accept coupons past 30 days so Cub had to follow the rules.
Its going to be even harder now to get the good deals at Cub with the new policy in my opinion.

I called my Cub of CR-42 and CR-5...they confirmed that this is true!! Although, only 4 stores are currently implementing this policy, including mine. Every other store is still at the 90 plus day rule. I would encourage you to use up those really good expired coupons while you can.

The other change that comes with the new system update is this. The self-checkouts will now require all cashiers to manually scan the coupons. Apparently people haven't been honest about their coupon usage and have been keeping them. So, to avoid loss, the cashiers are now required to manually scan them. I am so bummed because this was one of the reasons why I enjoyed the self-checkouts...I was able to make sure that everything came off properly. But, I understand why they had to modify their rules!!

Thanks to both of you for the updates. I was at Monticello today and used some past 30 days, but once I saw this part, it made sense, assuming they are not one of the four implementing it.

Edited to add: I did send an email to Cub to see if corporate has any response to this regarding all stores or just a few stores implementing this. I will let you know what I hear anything back.

I can use expired Q's. Always looking for expired frees. Would love Vitamin Water/Sobe/Fuze q's as well.
I sometimes have frees and have put some tearpads on my FSOT list. I can always use or trade pampers, huggies, and coke codes as well.

Just wanted to update, no one from Cub had emailed me back as of 10:30am, so I put a call into their 800# and have a request for the person in charge of their coupon policies to call me. But, it may not be until Monday but hopefully, we can find out the full extent of what is going on ASAP, whatever it may be.

I used coupons over 1 month old at both Brooklyn Park North and Northtown today with no issues.

Is there a difference between corporate owned and franchised coupon policies? I'm wondering if this only affects franchised locations and not corporate since some posters still used expired Qs.

I usually shop Brooklyn Park North & Maple Grove.

I used coupons at Buffalo Cub today that were past 30 days expired. They didn't say anything to me about a new policy.

Cambridge just added a new system on Wednesday morning. This I found out on Friday did include the new 1 month expired policy. No more 90 day expireds for me.

This is technically not a Cub policy but a new policy from the place where they send the coupons so I think it will effect all stores.

I understand that the "new" expired Q policy is not Cub Foods' policy. What I meant to convey is if the store is franchised, they might use a different coupon redemption center than the corporate stores, resulting in different policies depending on corporate owned vs. franchise (independently) owned.

I checked with CS at Brooklyn Park South and Brooklyn Center today and both are still accepting up to 3 months today (in case you are heading out).

Does this include the expired RRs? My buddy will be devastated since her Cub takes expired RRs up to 90 days or so

on the brighter side, the fact they still accept expired up to 30 days is still a great blessing since that is now rare for any store.

I stopped using my RR's @ Cub because the RR's stated, "redeemable only at Walgreen's". Does Cub Foods still accept RR's even with the new wording?

If so, I need to shop at Walgreen's again.

Well on a positive note at least at least I'll be able to remove Cub Foods from my list of stores that I shop at on a weekly basis.(Rainbow, Target, Walmart, Aldi, Menards, CVS, Walgreens) That will save a little time.

Now I will only have to shop at Cub Foods once every blue moon like Kmart!

Cub taking 3 month expired coupons was really the only thing good they had.

With no reply back from either my email sent Thursday or call I made Friday, I am not holding out a lot of hope of getting a direct answer except from what I have seen elsewhere, and that is that it will go into effect at all stores, but they don't have a set date yet. So, I guess I will try and use as many of the really good 2-3 month expired coupons I have been holding onto ASAP.

I will still let you know if I hear anything back.

my buddy said they have been posting on their facebook page for them to reconsider a compromise for like "2 months" instead of 1 month. she said there is no start date mentioned so this may still be very much YMMV.

as to expired WAG RRs, she said her stores are aware of the 'redeemable ONLY @ WAG' verbiage and still continue to accept them. I guess just like all other retailers, it is YMMV. *shrug*

I told her, it could've been worse if they just pulled the plug and say effective X date, NO more expired coupons. PERIOD.

this one month seems to me, a fair compromise, I'm afraid that if couponers try to make "demands" which to them MAY sound unreasonable and reeks of entitlement, they may just say NO MORE EXPIRED COUPONS Anyway, they will do as they please on what benefits them so couponers can just wait n see for what happens.

I wonder if the Eden Prairie store will be exempt from this because they must have a different process (considering they have been accepting 5 months expired).

I can use expired Q's. Always looking for expired frees. Would love Vitamin Water/Sobe/Fuze q's as well.
I sometimes have frees and have put some tearpads on my FSOT list. I can always use or trade pampers, huggies, and coke codes as well.

The person who runs the PYD matchup website emailed SuperValu corporate (this is Cub's parent company) and got an email back stating:

“There has been no change to our policy that’s effective today. We’re still accepting manufacturer coupons that are up to 90 days expired.”

Then the email stated that they would like to know which specific stores have been communicating that there is a change to the policy. That will help the corporate office be sure that it gets cleared up at the store level.


So it will be interesting to see how this ends up playing out.

The email I got back pretty much stated the same thing, that they were not aware of any changes, but they forwarded it on to the person at corporate that is in charge of coupon policies. But now, day five after I made the initial contact, I have heard nothing back, so who knows. Personally, I think corporate knows about this, but it got out of the bag before they wanted it to. I could be wrong, this is just my thoughts.

Email Received: <<<Thank you for your request for additional information on the Cub coupon policy and what locations are not excepting coupons past the 90 days as stated in the policy. We look forward to further assisting you regarding this matter.

At this time we are not aware of which stores are not excepting the coupons. We have forwarded your inquiry to the necessary parties for further contact. You should be contacted back by the end of the next business day.

The only mention of this on their FB page was from one person's post asking about the change, and their reply was: "Thank you for inquiring about our Coupon Policy. We have not made any changes to our coupon policy, and at this time our stores will accept manufacturer coupons up to 90 days past their expiration date. Thanks for shopping with us!"

I received back today an email from their corporate headquarters regarding my email sent last Thursday. From what I can read between the lines, it looks like this might be happening in the future at all locations ("we are currently reviewing several policies"), but for now, if you location still does, their corporate policy is to continue taking coupons for up to 90 days expired.
