I was there yesterday doing a little shopping. I was hoping to get
creamy Jif, none on the shelf. I found an employee to get some help.

Anyways, he told me that you can tell if there are other displays of
shelved products in the store, by looking at the colored dot on the
shelf tag. A blue tag meant there was another display, an endcap for
example, or along the back wall (the dot tag didn't tell you where it
was).

A yellow-orange tag meant there was overstock in the back. Like maybe
it meant they had more than plenty I suppose.

I found this pretty interesting. Maybe others knew this already, but I
didn't.

Also, anywhere you see a green sticker dot, that is a closeout sale, sometimes prices are listed, sometomes not.

I spoke with the grocery manager at my local Cub today (which by the way I him - he is always so willing to talk and explain things or look things up for me).
In any case, I asked him if the colored dots were still the same as mentioned when this was originally posted back in 2006. He stated that blue dots had stopped being used. He was pretty sure that was corporate wide as he has been the grocery manager at a few different locations.
He said most stores do them the same, but obviously, every manager can decide how they want to code their dots on the shelves. At Monticello at least the following applies:
• 1/2 Red Dot = Overstock on a pallet
• Red Dot With "R: on it = extra of that item are on the racking (on top of the back wall of the store)
• Red Dot With "OSA" on it = additional product is located in the back room.

Thought that was interesting so wanted to pass it along.
