Sav-Mor is a spin-off from Ingles Grocery Store..... and they regularily have about 8 grocery carts full of sale items. Recently I found a cereal they had marked down that I had a coupon for ....but was told by the cashier that I could not use the coupon for the sale items. This may be a lame question..but I'm so new at this, I thought I would ask. |

You should check the store's official policy to be sure, but normally coupons are allowed even for sale items. The store will be reimbursed for the coupon even if they mark it down.

I did this at my store a while back. The cashier said no, but called over a manager. It took her a while but she was able to force the Q off. I'd check.

I agree....check to see if they have a policy against this. I've always been able to use MQ's on clearance or final offer products. Good Luck!

update on Sav-Mor coupon policy... I spoke to the manager, he was very nice but explained that by the time that products hit the sale baskets, they generally only make pennies for each product and so therefore they were not going to take any coupons for the marked-down sale items. He explained that items that are being discontinued from Ingles end up at Sav-Mor in their sale baskets (carts) I regularily save money when I choose items from these carts so I understand their position. I am very happy with their store and service. They do accept manufacturers coupons for any regular item--just not from the marked-down carts. On a side note I saw a college kid get a gallon of milk marked at $1 with a big red sticker. I complimented him on the find and he explained that on the last date sometimes you can find milk marked down. He and his roommate looked like they would have no problem drinking the mlk in a couple of days. Last edited by wakeup; 10-13-2009 at 08:13 PM. |

it shouldn't matter, cause they will get full coupon value from mfg if it is a store that doubles, I can understand them making a rule like that

I had this experience at Tom Thumb. They have to manually key the item into the register so it doesn't scan in under the mfg's barcode. It usually shows as clearance or miscellaneous sale item on the receipt. When this happens, they can't reconcile the coupons to the item - that is the main reason they don't accept them.

sumjoy, that is correct, I had forgotten to include that in the explaination. All the discounted items ring as "clearance or miscellaneous sale items on the receipt." thanks for bringing that point out |
