Hi,
Will someone tell me what "reputations" are? When I log in, there are reputations, then I click on them and they're gone.

Also, what does it mean when someone is thanking me for my post? They have found it interesting? Or do we thank someone for their response instead of posting a thank you?

Reputations/Thanks are ways of saying that they liked your post, agreed with it, etc.
When you have new reputations, you will see them when you log in and when you want to go back to them, you can just click on settings.

When I'm literally thanking someone, I usually click the Thanks button and also post a Thank You.

i was wondering the same thing about rep points. im thnking it has to do when we reply to a post or start one some on can add to our rep and i think when we get thanks we earn points. but im not 100% sure.

Your reputations (I just call them Thanks) just are not new, so do not show up at the top of your page. You can still see them next your your name on posts on the right hand side. At this exact moment, you show having posted 4 times, you have thanked other people 4 times for their posts, and 15 people have thanked you. These 15 will continue to be added onto, whether or not you end up viewing them on your "rep" page.

For me, I thank someone when their post has been a help to me, taught me something I didn't know, made me laugh, etc. I will be honest with this, and I know some people will not agree, but I tend to not give thanks to people who show having had (for example) 1,000 people thank them but they have either never thanked anyone else or have only said thanks to a few. I guess I just figure that this site is a two way street and I have a hard time imagining they have not gotten anything from any other persons posts on here. I am probably just being mean () but I do look at that before I hit the "thanks" button for posts. If you really had a post help you, by all means hit the "thanks" button and also post a thanks post as well. HTH
