| Is this true? OR was I lied to?
I returned two bottles of shampoo today. (Store doesn't really matter) Nothing wrong with them - just bought them 2 months ago before I learned about coupons and getting things for free! (and before I started saving receipts!) My two bottles of Tresseme cost me $3.50 each... I told them that was how much I paid for them. I saw a sign posted on the wall by CS that said "returns without a receipt will be issued store credit or an exchange for lowest scannable price in past 60 days. no cash refunds". Ok, I was fine with this... I just wanted it put on my debit card where the money originally came from. I realized I was going to be out $1 because the lowest price in the past 60 days was actually $3 each. Well, the guy at the desk calls up the manager lady and this is how the conversation went: Manager: "What's the issue" Me: "I'd like to return these. I bought them when they were on sale for $3.50 each" Manager: "No receipt?" Me: "No" Manager: "What's wrong with them?" Me: "Nothing, I have just decided I need to watch where my dollars go a little better and I don't want them anymore" Manager: Getting snotty now... "Well, you do realize I can NOT resell these! Who knows what's in them! ... not that I'm saying YOU put anything in them, but I can't resell these! I'll let you return them this ONE time but never again without a receipt" Me: Feeling like a stomped on piece of chewing gum... and totally feeling embarassed now that four other people are watching her talk to me like this... "ok" ![]() She walked away and the original guy at the desk scanned them in and I got the $6 and change back onto my debit card. Did I do something wrong? Is it true that HBA (shampoos, conditioners, toothpastes, bodywash etc) can't be resold/exchanged? I'm on the fence about reporting her - the way she treated me - maybe they need to change their returns without a receipt policy to exclude any items like HBA ... (This was at a grocery store mind you) Anyone have any thoughts for me? Thanks. (If this is in the wrong forum, please move it - I wasn't sure where to put it...) |

hmmmmm......... it could be that store's policy, hard to say. in my opinion, i think if i had personal care items that i bought, and were in my possession for 2 months, that i no longer had the reciept for.......i would have just sucked up the 6 bucks, used the shampoo and called it a learning experience.

She should have been nicer to you. ![]() A lot of stores have policies like that on returns-- certain things are automatically marked as damaged when returned and trashed. You didn't do anything wrong.

There is no excuse for rude customer service. I would call and talk to someone about the situation. The shampoo would not be my concern, the humiliation caused by the manager would be my main problem. I would call a corporate 800 #, with notes made in advance about what I wanted to say. No company wants their customers treated like this.

I wasn't aware HBA can't be resold - I just returned eye shadow because I didn't buy the right kind of makeup product for a rebate. The clerk didn't even bat an eye. I'd call corporate & confirm if that's their policy - and if it is, tell them that this manager needs to be more professional. |

I can understand the policy. Can you imagine some sicko putting glue, or dye, or Nair hair remover, or something like that into a shampoo bottle and returning it. But he had no right to talk down to you like that. I'm sorry you had to endure that.

SO, on a kind of different note - I noticed the bottom of my CVS receipts say refunds and exchanges are acceptable - do they have an exculsionary policy too for any HBA... that's practically 90% of their merchandise! Just thinking out loud. That's all. |
