Inexpensive Birthday Party Ideas for an 8 Year Old Boy

My son is turning 8 in July. I am looking for cheap party ideas. I'm open to any suggestions, but I've had his last few parties at home, and I'm hoping to have his party somewhere else. When they are at home, I spend a lot of time preparing, I don't enjoy the party much because I am busy being a hostess and I still end up spending quite a bit of money. He wants his party at a laser tag place and it would cost about $250 for 10 kids his age plus 5 toddlers. It would include 2 games of laser tag, 5 tokens, 2 pieces of pizza, a drink, cake, paper goods and a party room. It's not a bad deal, but i'm wondering if there's something better out there. Thanks for your help!

How about a camping party ( not over night) at a state park? You could roast weenies, make smores, tell scary stories, go swimming, ect...... You could make favors out of the bandanas and tie them to sticks ( like huck finn..) and fill them W/ cheap compasses candy, mini flashlights......

i really like therebels idea, i may have to file that one for when my own kiddos get a little older!

i always thought i would be the kinda mom who has a homade b day party for each kid and for the most part i am. but i tell you what, one year we rented a rollerskating rink ($150 for 3 hrs) that included the dj, skate rental for everyone, and two piters of pop. we brought a cake from a bakery and they also provided plates, cups napking and a visit with the birthday dinosaur. i just had to show up with the kids, ii think there were about 80 people there cause we let people bring extra friends since it didn't sot any more. everyone had a blast, and we just left no mess!
i am planning on having a party at the ymca some time too. they have a simaler deal it like $200 for three hrs and included 1 1/2 hrs of pool time with a lifeguard. and open gym and you provide the cake. that might be fun for kids that age.
i am just getting soooo excited our dd turns 1 in july and we have never had a summer b day before so we are gonna go crazy. bounce house (have a coupon) pettingzoo and pony rides, plus swimming. ella won't really remember it, but we just can't help our selves!

If you do decide to do it at home, I heard of someone doing a "Fear Factor" party. They had to do things like stick their hands in brains (spagetti) or eat eyeballs (grapes). I googled "Fear Factor Birthday games" and whole list came up, so I am sure that you could get a ton of ideas.

I thought when I heard this that it would be the perfect party for every eight year old boy I have ever known. Good Luck!

I do a big party for my daughter every other year. I tell her it is because I need a year to recover. I always go overboard and stress myself out. This year we are going put-put and to a park to open presents. One girl in her class had a build a bear party in which they went to Red Robin for dinner and then each of the ten girls could all pick whatever animal they wanted and an outfit. I hate to think what that Mom spent, but Lauren had a blast. When I went to wake her up this morning, she had her animal in a head-lock. So cute!

we went to a build a bear party this winter and the kids were given the choice of $20 bear or a $10 bear and $10 i accassories. there were 10 kids and the mom had a $50 off coupon so $150 wan't too bad. they really loved it. can't see the boys loving that though.

Give them some cheap water gun's with red food coloring in the water. They can play cops and robers the red (will wash out) shows who got tagged. Popcorn (wags on clearance) Soda's CVS next week and hot dogs.

I always buy the cheap clearance tents at Target. Home base!!

I have done all kinds of parties (what with five kids and all) but my DS will also be 8 in June and last year we did a clown ($125 for an hour and a half) she did face painting, magic show and balloon animals..kids had a blast, then eating, pinata, and cake and open presents and party over!! The year before I did a magician ($100 for an hour) but he got there late and pulled a women's pair of panties out of the end of a string of bandanas (not funny at the time for six year olds and their parents)...however for DD 12 I have alwasy done the ice skating rink ($125 for 3 hours with 2 pizzas, unlimited sodas and all paper goods)...DD 10 has always had home parties with cookie baking or pizza making or crafts...this year however for DS 7 I think I will do some kind of science show (he is really into science right now)

I had the same issue before. My sister's friend introduced me to Giftventure He is still talking about it. I like the idea, it is not because of what you bought for your kids but the experience of receiving a letter. We only did it in the family birthday party but if you want to do it at the birthday party, I am not sure not just your boy would have fun but all the kids in the birthday party would love it. Check it out,

I had fun too...

we had our best party ever last year. It was in July, so the weather was great. We went to a park and brought a Costco cake ($14.99), 2 costco pizzas ($9.99 ea), some chips (on sale with ECBs from CVS) and a couple of coolers full of soda (they were super cheap from ECBs at CVS-LOL!)
Instead of goody bags, we put a bunch of CHEAP goodies - pencils, bubbles, packs of candy, packs of fruit snacks, sunglasses, etc in a basket. We counted all the kids and told everyone they could have 3 pieces.
Everyone had a great time. The kids played like crazy people. The parents were able to relax in the sun and we all ate until we were full as ticks. Many parents told us it was the best party they had ever been to. It was certainly the easiest for my husband and me.
I guess the bottom line is, don't stress it.
