I went to RiteAid on Saturday night to get their Alpo dog food that was buy one get one free. I also had a manufactured coupon for buy one get one free. The night manager said she couldnt take the coupon with the sale. She said I would have to choose whether to use the sale price or the coupon! Ive never done this kind of deal before so I didnt know what to expect, or argue, but I knew I could use these two deals together. So after arguing with me, then embarrassing me (another customer offered to buy me the dog food!) I left with nothing. I called another RiteAid and talked with their manager and they told me she was wrong but even she didnt know how to use the coupon and the sale together. So I went in today (Monday) hoping to catch the store manager and all he did for me was to ring up both items half off.. so instead of .99 they were .49 then he gave me my coupon deal which was .49 off after he did his half thing. So I feel I paid more than I needed to.? Has anyone asked corp. how this is supose to work?

Aprilmar, The way your deal eventually worked is my understanding of the way it will work with Riteaid. The BOGO deals there are not as good as at other places because of the way their register rings things. Normally, when someone advertises BOGO, the register will ring up the first item at full price & will take full price off for the second one. At Riteaid, my understanding is that each item rings up at 1/2 price when they advertise BOGO. This makes it where you pay 1/2 price for the first item & get the second one free which is not the deal you expected. I don't do BOGO deals at Riteaid for this reason. With a normal double BOGO deal, your coupon is taken off the first full price item and the store zeros out the price for the second item. Some managers still don't like this, however it should meet the terms. In order to get their free product, you have to buy one. You are buying one, but the manufacturer is paying for it with the BOGO coupon which the store will get properly reimbursed for. When I had issues at the cashier, I have always gotten them to ring it when I explained it this way (for stores that ring it up normally). That being said, you can take advantage of Riteaid's policy in other ways. Since each item rings at 1/2 price, you don't have to buy 2 to get the discount. If you have other coupons that will reduce the price of 1, you can do the deal that way instead. I know Lowes Foods does their BOGO the same way which helps me sometimes because I don't always want 2 of the item on BOGO. BargainbettyJR, I believe the shampoo she is referring to is Loreal Vive Pro. There was a pair of BOGO coupons for it in SS (I believe) 1 or 2 weeks ago. That is how I found out about Riteaid's register policy. Somebody else posted a thread about Riteaids quirky BOGO policy that prevented me from trying to use another BOGO Vive coupon I had. At their price, that would basically be $2.50 for 2 bottles after the BOGO. I have enough of that shampoo to wait for a better deal than that through CVS or Walgreens. HTH! |
