Looks like I'll be hosting my first coupon class on August 8th! I'm so nervous!! As much as I like chatting on a one-to-one basis, talking in front of a group makes me so nervous!! (Which is crazy since I did Competitive Public Speaking in school)

I've started working on handouts, will make copies of local store policies, have examples of different ways to organize coupons, some samples from my stockpile...... and so far that's it. I made an outline to follow, as well as a more detailed version to go with my handouts.

Any good tips for anything else I should do?

In my handouts I make I have what the acronyms (sp) stand for ie: WYB,OOP, etc. I f you can get into Walgreens RR let mention rolling over and they can't use the same RR for the same item and get another (I hope you understand what I mean).

And when I close I always tell them the key to this whole concept is to get FREE or almost FREE groceries and other merchandise;....but KEEP IT LEGAL and to PHR(PUR).. have Patience, Humility, and Respect! my hubby came up with this one!

yay! congrats. I am also teaching one on the 8th, but it will be the second (I hope) I am planning a smaller one on the 4th. I am actually doing 3 different classes. 1 because we have so many different stores around here and 2 because I want to make sure all the basis are covered.

Yep, I've got the acronyms. Good point about the Wags RR! I was def. going to bring them up but would have forgotten about not using the same one on a similar item.

PHR reminds me something of something an ex of mine used to say all the time. His was PLUR. Peace Love Unity Respect (too bad he couldn't follow that himself! )

This first group will be my midwife, anybody that works for her, and I think a couple of her daughters. They agreed to be my 'test run' before the real deal. But they've been promoting my class to all their clients, so my class after them will be for those clients which is families from all kinds of different walks of life.

A few of my fav. Publix cashiers and even one of the managers wants to come to one of my classes! I know one of the cashiers is a single mom who could use the help learning the coupons. I was a single mom for awhile, so once I get this down better, I'd love to teach a class just for single moms.

Oh oh, and my siblings and I have this thing we started called Operation Sunlight where we make care kits for the homeless and soldiers overseas. I just found out at my parents church that they take in homeless families (3-4) for a week out of the month (then they go to other participating churches the other weeks) and they ask the parishioners to donate items for the families. So we are going to extend Operation Sunlight to help donate for that BUT I was also thinking I would put in a few of the handouts and some starter coupons in their care kits. Even if they can't use that knowledge right then, when they get on their feet again, wouldn't it be great for them to have the tools to know how to keep their grocery bill low!? (I'm really excited about it, can you tell?)

I explained and showed the different types of coupons ex blinkies, peeliies, tear pads etc.
I thought also it was important to explain never to expect overages

Congratulations. It is exciting when you get to talk about something you love to do.
I make sure to stress that when you use a coupon legitimately, the manufacturer reimburses the retailer. I don't want to promote using photocopies or bar code decoding or any of that other illegal stuff. Also, knowing that the store gets reimbursed helps deal with those cashiers and other customers who roll their eyes and claim you're somehow cheating the system.

My handouts also list a few blogs that cover stores in my area.

This is so nifty! My first coupon class will be on the 8th too! I'm nervous as well since I'm usually described as an introvert >< I love coupons and saving money + I want to meet people since I'm not from the area I'm living now... 1+2=coupon class

I'm planning on a short power point presentation on basic couponing tricks, tips, store policy & where to find coupons.(I'm lucky the local library meeting room has a projector available)

I've also put together a shadow box of sorts with all the goods from my recent CVS trip. The receipts & photo copies of my ECB's are glued to the outside so that people can see for themselves how much they can save.

To finish it off I'm giving away small gift bags of some of the items I've gotten for free from Kmart Super Doubles and Meijer.

My class went great. Right after I even went CVS shopping with a friend that attended the class and her very first cvs oop was $0.41!! now I can't wait to teach another one

I live part time in FL and part time in TN. In a few weeks I'll be returning to my TN mountain home and anticipate doing a seminar on couponing for our little mountain church there. It will be my first seminar, and of course I'm nervous, too. I'm a relative newbie to all of this, but have had success and now others are asking for help. Hopefully it will be a good resource for the people attending, especially since the area is so economically week and there is a lot of poverty. If any of you could send me a copy of your handouts, that would be so appreciated. Thank you!!!

I started to donate to the welfare center and they have talked to me about teaching a class. I think that would be fantastic, but I'm no teacher. I wouldn't know where to start.

I did want to mention that telling people to check with their individual stores is so important. Walmart price matches which a lot of people don't know. Some CVS's ECB's don't ever expire and some do - some CVS's will take competitors coupons and some won't... etc.... those are helpful tips too!

I was invited to do a seminar at a Dave Ramsey workshop at a church also; it was awesome. I will be doing my second seminar this month next week...I love it, love it..don't you love it...sharing the knowledge and the gift that the Lord has given us! I consider this as my ministery.
