| Coupon Class Question
I'm hoping to start offering a class in my area, since I'm attending a college with a lot of married students who are tight on money. I had hoped on giving each student a couponing kit (I received one as a wedding gift- it's a zippered binder with tabbed dividers and the baseball card and photo plastic sleeves, plus scissors, pens, a spiral notebook, and some couponing tips and a calculator, and coupon policies for local stores). Because of the cost I will incur in making this, I want to charge $15 for my class. I'm not trying to make a profit or anything, I just want to cover my cost of holding the class, and I feel like having a coupon kit that you can take home from the class is an important way to actually jump start savings. My question is.... do you think people would be willing to come to a class where they have to pay a fee? And is that fee outrageous (by my research in prices, it would basically only be covering my costs... again, NOT a profit-maker!)? Thanks in advance for ANY thoughts on this! |

I've heard of people charging more than you. A lot of people can look at it as paying xx amount of dollars to learn how to save thousands, kwim? Plus if you're going to have snacks/refreshments I think it's def. ok to charge for the class so you can get reimbursed. That said, I'm not sure I would offer the binder. While it's a great idea, the binder system doesn't work for everyone, in fact it can seem a little overwhelming to some beginners. For my classes I plan on bringing several options of how coupons can be toted around/organized. then I'm going to offer a 'coupon' with the materials I give out for me to make a binder for them if they'd like (the coupon would be for however much it would cost me to make it), so maybe that is something you could do too? Also if you do that, then you wouldn't have to charge the full $15 for the class. HTH

I'm glad you asked your question here. In another board, there was discussion about members who were giving couponing classes for a fee. I'd rather not mention the state where the classes are held for a fee. The lady charges $35 and she offers to chaperone her student for their first couponing spree at store of their choice....again for a fee. It didn't click with the site admin, they do not like info gathered from their site for free to be used as part of materials to make money. NO ifs or buts. I don't know if they were able to hunt down the "MM couponers" ![]() The fees you intend to charge really depends on how much you think your time is worth and if there is anyone interested in it. If there is no one interested, even FREE may not be good for them, kwim? Your fee of $15 is just right, IMO. If you'll also give some starter coupons, that may entice people to join your class. They will have the coupons ready for their first venture. Good luck!
