| Am I making a mistake?
A friend of mine ask me to teach a coupon class. She is having it at her house next week. I think there is going to be a good turn out. My question is should I have charged for the class? I am reading the posts on here and see that many of you do. My friend kept telling me to charge $5 but my sister didn't think anyone would pay that b/c there are women doing them for free. Obviously it is too late now for me too charge anything but maybe for future classes (if I am asked again). Also any suggestions would be appreciated. I am basically self taught with help from AFC. I have never been to a class so I am not even sure where to begin. |

I would charge. i can't now because i'm using a conference room from the public library and those are their terms but that money goes for your time, any refreshments, handouts (paper and ink). I mean, yeah, you want people to learn and to save money but you don't want to really be out. 5.00 isn't a lot to ask especially if they can use those tools that you give them to save thousands.

You could ask for a donation to cover expenses.

I'm doing one next week too. I am using the layout that someone posted and she asked that these be no charge. If I do a more involved one after that, I may charge then. I guess I just want to give back what we get here and share it with everyone!

If you're not doing hand outs, snacks or goody bags. I think it is ok that you didn't charge this time. Maybe you can make an outline of what to cover in 30/45 minutes. Then if there is 2nd meeting/advanced class. Charge for that or any future ones.

i hold mine at my church and umm well i dont think i would feel right about charging anyone to share the info and rules i have learned --- its been a god send to me and my family and well i wanna feel as if i am giving back in some small way for all this new life that we have been blessed with -- i can afford so many things now --- and i want others to be able to do the same -- it gives u a since of security to have spare money in ur pockets -- but its really up to the individual that is holding it how it is conducted my extended church family loves that i have offered to do this and it is very rewarding -- ive made lifelong pals

I think a basket for donations is great idea, at the end you can say or better yet have hostess mention at the begining and end if this helped them please leave a tip and mention that you guys paid for refreshments, etc. out of your own pocket or what i was going to say have them all donate Sundays inserts, are you having them bring coupons so you guys can do a swap? have them bring cut coupons and you get to keep the left overs??? Good luck |

My classes have been at churches, so I didn't feel right charging a fee. Other than my time, my only expense would have been photocopying handouts. I asked the church to handle that, so I didn't spend anything. If my teaching area expands, I might consider asking for travel expenses.

Thank you all for your advice. I am doing this as a favor for a good friend so I think not charging is the right thing to do. My friend is doing refreshments so nothing is coming out of my pocket there. Mostly it is just my time and some materials. Maybe a prize or two from my stockpile. Might even do a potluck envie to give away.
