I see a lot of folks saying they don't have enough posts to see stuff. Post count is easy. Go to the main page and Welcome all the new folks. Ask any questions on how to save. Create scenarios to help save more. Talk about any sales you see in your area. We are just friends you haven't met in person and most of us don't bite too hard. Tell us about your favorite products. Tell us about a coupon you got in the mail or found to download. In just a short time you will find you have lots to say.

One of the key ways I am able to save money is by stockpiling.

A stockpile is, in its most basic form, having backup items for every item that you use on a regular basis in your home. Sure, you could go to the store today and buy a few extra of everything you use, but that would defeat the purpose of stockpiling for to save money. The idea is that when you can get an item at a rock bottom price (with or without coupons), you buy multiples of that item and store them for future use.

For example..I wash 2 to 3 loads of dishes every day. Fall of 2009, Electrosol put out a coupon for $2.50 off Electrosol tablets. I purchased 50 coupons off of ebay for $3.99. Dishwasher tablets went on sale at Target for $2.75 a few weeks later. Since dishwasher tablets, don't expire, I purchased all 50 and stored them in a tote, in my garage. My total out of pocket was $.25*50= $12.50 + 3.99 for the coupons off ebay, so $16.49 purchased me $137.50 worth of dishwasher tablets ($2.75*50). The boxes were 30 packs of dishwasher tablets, so I have 1500 dishwasher tablets that should last me about 2 years. I no longer buy dishwasher tablet each month, so that is another $5 in my monthly budget that I can use towards stockpiling another area.

Growing a stockpile will take some time...if you're really watching your sales and getting the rock bottom prices, I would say it will take 6 months to a year to be fully stocked up on most things.

How much should you stockpile? This depends on how much room you have for storage, and how much your family will actually use. Stockpiling is a waste of time and money if you buy items that you won't use before they expire. So, be sure to be buying items that you regularly use, and rotate them...just like they do in a grocery store. First in, first out...

Once you have a stockpile established, you won't need to shop nearly as often...I can go for weeks only buying milk and eggs, and fresh fruit/veggies. Because everything I need I have on hand.

Buying seasonally...is a great way to stockpile items
First, what items are on sale each month??
January/February- After Christmas clearance (holiday themed dish soap, hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, m&m's for baking by Jan 1, they're usually 75% off), Diet items, (things like frozen Smart Ones meals), yogurt, 100 calorie packs of things, Super Bowl foods (chips, soda, cheese, sandwich items, little smokies). Breakfast items (national breakfast month), dog food (westminster dog show), Brownie Mix, valentine items clearance after v day.
March/April-Easter sale items...ham & turkey, baking items.
May/June/July-BBQ sauce, Pickles, Relish, Ketchup, Mustard, Marshmallows, Graham Crackers, Hershey Bars paper plates and napkins. Diapers and wipes will change packaging sometimes during this month, so watch for sales.
August/Sept-Cleaning Supplies, Laundry detergent/fabric softener, sandwich items, juice boxes, and school supplies.
October/November/December-flour, brown sugar, white sugar, powdered sugar, turkey, ham, dressing, potatoes, cream soups, flour, sugar, sweetened condensed milk, karo syrup, pecans, mixed nuts.

You will also want to know your stock up prices on basic items you use on a regular basis? For me, here are a few..
Flour $.20 a pound
Sugar $.50 a pound
Campbells Cream of chicken soup $.25-$.45 a can
Campbells Tomato soup $.20 a can
Pork Loin $.99 a pound

When these items hit these prices, I buy...and buy a lot. In November, I purchased 400 cans of cream of chicken soup at $.25 per can. Normal price for this at Target is $1.39 per can, it was on sale for $.45 and I had coupons for $1 off 5 cans. So, I paid $100.00 on sale for 400 items that would have cost me $556.00 over the course of a year if I had paid full price...and yes, we easily go through that many cans before it will expire (2 year exp date of cream of chicken).

Always be on the lookout for free items, even if it's something you may not think you'll use...for instance, last summer, Pampers offered a $2 off any wipes coupon in the sunday paper insert. Wipes at Target were $1.99. So, I bought 100 coupons off of ebay for $5 and stocked up on 100 packages of wipes for only $5 out of pocket (the cost of buying the coupons). Wipes to me, are something any parent with kids under 18 need, and need a lot of...so that will always be something I'm looking for....if you don't have kids, these are great to use for quick cleanups or to have in your car for spills.

In closing, I just want to say that stockpiling takes a different mentality from today's, “run to the store and grab something” mentality that we all have. It takes time, discipline, and organization. But can truly save your family a lot of money. It is also great to know I am prepared in the event of any type of disaster to survive long term if need be.
Thank you for the great information!!!!

Thank you so much for the great powerpoint presentation, as well as the information on refunds and stockpiles. I only started couponing a few months ago, and already have friends asking me to teach them how I am saving so much. If I can't find a class in the Richmond, VA area to drag everyone to, I may have to try doing an informal beginner's class myself.
