| Calling all Coupon Class Teachers
I thought we could start a thread for all of us coupon class teachers. Share lesson plans, handouts and support each other. I have only taught two classes but I am trying to offer more but not sure how to get my name out there. |

| Games to make coupon classes fun
I decided I wanted to teach coupon workshops. Right now I have three workshops scheduled. Should be fun! I'd be interested in hearing what fun games/activities other teachers do to make their classes more fun. I have a basket of Frees that I have all students make a guess on before the workshop starts. Their names and guesses go into a jar. At the beginning of the presentation I tell them what I actually paid and present the winner with their pick of two items from the basket. This sets the tone for the workshop and gets them excited about the material. Then during the presentation I give examples of various concepts. Before giving my final price I let two people guess and put both of their names in the jar. At the end of the class I draw a name from the jar and let them pick two from the basket. Then everyone else gets one thing from the basket. Last edited by Kmchamplin; 02-20-2009 at 09:52 PM. |

I help someone while they teach. I've not taught any classes yet, but what we do is go over all of the basic. Alot of newbies do not realize what all that can be done with coupons. The right way!! There is a site that has alot of info on there for teaching newbies. This is a great idea to start this thread. Gives us idea's that we all can change around to make our meetings fun and exciting. Thanks for sharing this!!

Wow... I musta missed this area on the forum when I posted my outline! Hehe... whoops!! I wonder if the admin can move my outline to here? This is cool!!! I do teach some classes for coupons. I have them rotating every other month right now actually. A beginner course and a more advanced course... but I have found that both of them can be taken by beginners NOW and with minimal issues of understand. Plus the next set is only 1 month away so they can catch up on what they missed easy.

Does anyone teach a class online thru AFC? I've been using some of the tips and whatnot here for a few months but i never seem to get the deals that everyone else does, and i'd love to learn from someone else like an online class where we could print off our own matrials and such but see the person via live feed teaching the class? If anyone knows of an online class of this type please leave me a message so i can check it out Thanks, Kelly |

I've taught one class so far through a local mom's group. It was a big success so I'm hoping to do this more often.

I actually teach classes in the Tulsa area and surrounding. I also offer online classes on basic couponing, intermediate, advanced and a bunch of other stuff. I have a weekly news segment here and am on the radio. The classes are great though, I wish I would have had one when I got started! LOL!

I do not charge for my coupon classes... but that's because it's more of a ministry style thing through our church. I have heard of people charging from $5 on up or even donations for a local food pantry. Definately be sure to have the class costs cover any handout material you may be using at LEAST. Have fun!!!

Im starting a class soon. Im calling around trying to find where to have it done right now. So im going to be putting out flyers everywhere and an ad in the local papers for it. They will have to sign up in advance on a set day and then that way i know they are serious before i go to the trouble. Its a 10.00 fee for mine. But this includes everything and the cost of the rental place. I think its more than fair as im going to try to make it fun and exciting and where everyone wins. So if you know anyone in Arkansas ( around cabot nlr area) that would benefit please let them know id be happy to talk to them

Our workshop went really well. I started it out with items for people to guess the prices a store charges and the price I paid after coupons. I had a paper for them to write prices down on. I then told them how much each was. I had lots of visuals for people to look at reciepts, store ads, coupon examples, and I set up scenerios and talked about how they break down the cost. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. There were about 45 people. I think out of all of them maybe 5 asked me to have another class that would be more in depth of what to do and how everything works. I have seen many of the people in the stores and they often show me that they too are now packing coupons. Our workshop was broken down into 20 minute intervals. It was a mini womans retreat so there were lots of other fun things going on......I think mine was problably the least fun. I would definately pass up on some coupons for a back massage or papmering on my hands, feet, and nails.....only to return shortly after to my wonderful coupons. The ladies all seemed to have fun. They wanted to win something. I think it was the idea of "oh she got that for free???" Maybe we will win something. Just a few people asked....if we guess the right price do we get to take it home? That would have been fun. I wish I had thought about that because I have plenty to give away and would have been happy to have set something up like that, but I thought of it too late....and super busy to be quite honest.I definately enjoyed myself and would do it again.

We are putting together a series of door prizes from one of the ladies helping me put this clinic together that we're doing. We're working with the local newspaper to get a story in there and maybe even a weekly feature of some kind. We didn't plan on charging a fee, but putting a donation jar out for anyone who may want to contribute to the cost of the facility rental and having copies made. I am really excited about the ideas I have read here today. Time to contact the reporter again...time to move! |

We put together a seminar and will be conducting our first one on April 25 in the Jacksonville, Fl area. We have over 30 people interested in attending. We couldn't find a place that wouldn't charge us alot of money so we decided to have it in a home. We have 10 door prizes (we'll do a drawing) and goodie bags for everyone (which includes coupons and a tip sheet with useful info/websites). We are charging $10 per person but offering a "bring a friend" discount for $8 each if ou bring a friend.

Mommy Ingraham, where in Maine do you live? I'd love some insight about your classes and where in Maine you do them.

I taught my first class last weekend. It was a basic beginner class, but I knew some people already use coupons, so I threw in a little bit of advanced stuff, too. I tried not to be too store-specific. Instead I went over what kind of things you should absolutely know about any store's coupon policy. For a door prize, I put together a few bath/shower items from my stockpile. I had everyone write down their guess for the retail price and for my out of pocket price. Then I used each item to show a different strategy such as stacking coupons, rolling ECBs, etc. The door prize went to a randomly drawn winner. I'm scheduling another class with a different church, and I'm really looking forward to it.

| I do not charge for my classes. But if you want to make money off doing it, consider contacting your local newspaper to become a "contractor" with them. In my area, our newspapers cater to the couponers and offer 5 packs. Meaning 5 sunday papers for a set amount, averaging $18 a month. When you contract with the papers they pay you per subscription. It's a great way to earn some really good money! Example: One paper here pays me $18 per 5 pack subscription. Another pays me per individual paper and I get $10 per paper so when someone signs up for the 5 pack from that paper I make $50!! I would suggest calling your papers and working a deal out with them! It's a great way to help each other out. Especially since the newspaper business is struggling right now! They need all the subscriptions they can get!
