| Blinkies, Tearpads...oh my!
Okay so obviously I understand what regular coupons are and manufacturer coupons, store coupons, etc. What I don't know are what are these blinkies and tearpads and stuff like that that is being referred to in these coupon sections? I had never heard of those till I started here. What are they and how do you get them? Thanksk! :-)

Inserts = coupons that come in your newspaper Store = found at the store with the store name on the coupon Manufacturer = company sponsored coupon Tearpads = found in a store, pad/stack of coupons you pull off Blinkies = found in a store, red machine, you pull the coupons out, the machine might have a red blinking light Peelies = found on the item, you peel the coupon off Magazine = found in a magazine Mailer = mailed to your home Package = found inside a package I think there is a place on AFC where you can look up definitions. I don't know where it it located, but someone might come along who can help you further. |

To get blinkies and tearpads you just need to pay attention while you shop. Look at the shelves around eye level for pads of coupons and blinkie machines. Also look on the front of the refrigerated cases. Another place to look is if they have any special cardboard displays. Sometimes there will be tearpads on them, or there may be a pocket attached with booklets inside. Sometimes the booklets just have recipes but often they have coupons. I find a lot of tearpad coupons in the specialty cheese section too. What I do now is slowly walk down each aisle even if I don't need anything in that aisle that day and grab a few of any coupons I find. Even if it is for something I won't buy because I can pass these along on trains. You also may want to visit the customer service desk and ask if they have any coupons. They may look at you like you have two heads, but they may say "oh yeah we have this booklet we were giving out". This would usually be the case for store coupons. For example Shaws put out a holiday book of coupons a few weeks ago and some stores still have them behind the customer service desk. Also if you see people mention "catalinas" these are coupons that print out from these little machines by the register. Walgreens "register rewards" are an example of these, but a lot of grocery stores have coupons and promotions with these too. If you grocery store has deals like "spend $20 on select items and recieve a coupon for $5 on your next order" this is probably a catalina deal. |
