Ok so I'm a young ex-Starbucks employee and at MOST Starbucks they sell the local papers, and right next to them is a little basket to place the papers after your done reading them so they can be recycled. i have no idea why people KEEP buying these papers all day because there are STACKS of free ones next to the new ones they may be a bit jumbled up but if your just coupon Surfuing, pick through and take what you like, when i worked there we also threw all the papers that didn't sell for that day into the bin at night. (so we would throw Sundays leftover papers into the bin on Sunday at 10p.m. and they would still be there in the A.M. on Mondays...I dont believe this is BAD because your just helping them recycle... i did this all the time and got lots of SMartSource booklets every Sunday night. This is my first post so i hope this helps someone...i mean if your going in for your coffee anyway...might as well get some coupons out of it

I usually just purchase the inserts, they are cheaper than the paper from the paper guy. He has tons left over.

Oh the priviledges of living in a city. I use to live in a city and now in a very small town with only one grocery store. Ugh!!!

My mom stops at the local Walmart gas station on Monday mornings...she asks for all the leftover papers...they rip off the top to return to the NewsPaper distributor and she takes the rest. Not always do they have them, but it's still worth a shot.

I was just thinking of doing this, but didn't know how to exactly go about it! I don't go to coffee places to buy anything, so is it bad to just go in and pilfer through papers? Do you have to ask one of the employees first so they know what you're doing? Should you buy something first so you're a "customer"? I do like the idea of going on a Mon. morning when they'll get rid of the papers anyway. Thanks for the help!

LOL I work at a Panera in Raleigh NC but not on Sundays..Cant get the opener to remember to grab me the inserts..LOL

I just go in the store and take the inserts. So far, no one has said a thing to me. PLUS, sometimes it is easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Anyone says anything, just tell them you're sorry, didn't think anyone would care and/or you're helping to keep trash out of landfill.

I went to mine on a Monday and they were cleaned up. I may try to get there on Sunday, but like above poster I don't really want to buy anything as I have just kicked that little addiction that I had..

Great idea and good business for Starbucks too. I was thinking about just going door to door and doing my own paper drive. I could just make some flyers and put them on everyone's door and ask them to just leave a box of old newspapers on the porch on a certain day and just pick them all up. I think I will need to buy a truck now.

OMG! is that stealing? I thought you had to buy the whole paper to get the coupon inserts. I don't think I can stoop that low. Sorry but that's my 2 cents worth on that.

I don't think she meant she just takes them from the stores that are selling them, but at the starbucks or burger king where the papers are there for the public.

I just pop myself down and start pilfering. Anyone says anything just say, "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't think anyone was reading these coupons."

The worst thing they are going to tell you is you can't do that or no, and you've lost nothing.

Sometimes easier to ask forgiveness than permission.
