virus from coupons.com?

Is anyone having problems with viruses from coupons.com? I keep getting a virus (despite my anti-virus software) and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I read on (gasp!) another website where other people were getting a virus from coupons.com.

Anyone else having problems?

How do you know you have a virus? What are the symptoms? Or do you just get a message from your anti virus software? I did have problems printing a Q this a.m. from coupons.com but haven't noticed any problems with my computer.

Mine was definitely a virus. I had to do quite a bit to get rid of the &^%$# thing.

Apparently some people's anti-virus is catching it, but some aren't.

It "appears" that the problem is when you download the software, so in theory you shouldn't have any problems if you already have it on your computer. If a website has a virus in any of their areas it makes me nervous. (oh, and you lucky Mac people seem to be safe....it's just us PC people that seem to be having the problems)

Here is more info:

I ran into an issue when I was using coupons.com yesterday. When I clicked from one page to the next my browser window changed to what looked like anti-virus software telling me my computer was infected.

If this happens to you it's important that you close the browser window immediately WITHOUT downloading anything, etc. What pops up IS NOT your computer's anti-virus software, but it a virus masquerading as such. You don't want to say yes to anything it asks, you don't want it scanning your computer, and you most certainly don't want to buy the "protection" it's offering (as this is just designed to steal your CC info). These type of viruses have been floating around for a while, and are not at all exclusive to coupons.com. My best guess would be it is an ad on coupons.com that is causing the problem.

OMG. I got this last night.
I had thought I hit a button on my computer or something to start the virus scan but then when it finished the scan and cleaned up I closed the window and under that window was a warning from McAfee saying it found it.

And I was printing could have been coupons.com

If you think you may have an issue- use dr web cure it- it is free and scans in a safe mode and identifies more issues than a lot of other programs. My cousin, who is in IT, introduced me to it and it helped me when I got a virus my anti virus did not catch.

As a FYI- you really need more than just anti virus- you also need an intetrnet security suite. If money is tight- you can switch between the free trials every 30 days ( Dr Web, Kaspersky, Mcaffee, Norton, AVG, etc ) Most will let you do a free trial up to 3 times per year, and you have complete protection, instead of just antivirus.

The web cure it program can be found here: Dr.Web CureIt! — download free anti-virus! Cure viruses, Best free anti-virus scanner!

Yes ~It happened to me on two computers (one a brand new netbook I purchased because I couldn't get mine to work)~I could not print q's for about 3 weeks, I posted a couple threads here on AFC and contacted coupons.com, they never contacted me back..... It was horrible, Things seem to back to normal now, knock on wood.

On the first computer (laptop~1 yr old Dell) I had coupons.com printer installed for more than 1 year w/o any issues, I opened their site one day and I got a pop-up saying I need to install a coupons.com update, when I clicked ok, it "uninstalled" my current coupon printer, and re-installed the "new" version, which once installed a coupon printbar appeared on my screen, within 10 minutesof install my computer "crashed" blue screen. I knew I had problems, I tried to uninstall the new version but it had "hidden" links on my system w/i all my windows apps, I have Macfee for security and it didn't catch it or fix it. I eventually removed everything from my computer and re-installed and it still is not like it was before. I could not print any q's for 3 weeks. And the other night, I clicked on coupons.com picked the a-1 q, clicked print and it worked.....I can now print all q's on all sites. The coupon bar and all that is gone. And my computer has not crashed sinced I used the complete system re-install disks. The netbook, will not work at all~I think I am going to take it back to the store.....

It has been freezing my computer like every 10th bricks coupon I print. I was so frustrated with it last night. Had to shut down and reboot several times.

My virus program isn't picking anything up though, except for the "low threat" ad cookies.

I had a virus alert after leaving coupons.com once from TrendMicro. It was easily fixed though. Later I picked one up at the Colgate site, which was harder to remove. I have to agree that it seems to be coming from the ads in the websites.

This is what another popular blogger posted when she wrote to Coupons.com----- Here's their response:

Hello Couponers! My name is Rich and I am a Support Engineer at Coupons.com.
We are sorry to hear about these reports of viruses on our website and we have already reviewed our code to make certain that this issue is not being caused by or originating from our end.
This is a popular scam that resurfaces around the web from time to time. It is meant to draw people into downloading a real trojan that will continue to annoy its victims with more fake virus alerts even more persistently until they submit to and purchase a fake program that does absolutely nothing. The scammer can then attempt to use that credit card information for other purposes. Please do not follow the instructions on this malicious website. When you see it, close your browser.
Again I wanted to reassure you that Coupons.com is not infected with a virus, and is not infecting your computer with a virus either. Our website is likely being targeted by the redirect virus on your computer by some logic unknown to us, probably because it is a popular site in your browsing history. My recommendation is to research the issue through Google, follow the solutions to neutralize the redirect virus, and use caution moving forward when downloading unknown emails, files, and websites to ensure it doesn’t find its way back on to your machine again.

Another good site is Bleeping Computer - Computer Help and Discussion

There are step-by-step instructions for removing specific virus threats, and a group of volunteer techs to help if you have a specific question.

Laptop is in the fixit shop due to this exact problem. This one looks so real on the virus scan technique. Thankfully all of my pictures and documents are all backed up on external drive.

Doubly thankful my fix it shop is a family friend and I can use the old laptop in the meantime. After this one I think Im done printing for a while, the ink im going through (paying for ink with UPS) and the amount of paper turned, flipped, rotated is getting a bit messy!!!

Good luck to everyone.

I had to take my laptop to best buy. Expensive! Makes me not ever go back to that website ever again. Thank God I have my desktop computer.
