I went to Walgreens yesterday and was lied to. I am going to copy PARTS of my letter I am writing to the DM. Sorry so long! The reason I am writing this letter is because of my most recent trip to: Walgreens 4885 Mcknight Road Pittsburgh, PA 15237 I went to the cosmetic register with a bottle of the Soft Soap Body Wash that is on sale for $3.99 and gives a $4.00 RR and a package of M&Ms. I tried to use a $4.00 RR from the Neosporin deal that I received the previous week. The cashier said I could not use a RR on a product that I am getting an RR for. It would be like they were paying me $3.99 to take it. I explained that I had done it the week before and asked if this was a new policy, and she said no. So if I bought the Soft Soap using a RR, she would keep the new RR that would print out with my purchase. I did not purchase the Soft Soap Body Wash. My second transaction had two Listerine Blue Mouthwashes for kids. She said I could use my RR and keep the new RR because it was only going to print a $3.00 RR. I was not getting the item for free. Is this not contradicting the first transaction? She asked if I wanted to talk to a manger, but I needed to be at brunch soon. Since I was so frustrated at this point, I asked if I got the shampoo for free? There was a sign saying Product of the month. If I don’t ask it’s free. The cashier explained that she is not a beauty rep and she could not give it to me. Normally I would not care if they offered me the product or not. I just wanted to see what she said. While driving, I decided to call the manager. I explained my service that I just received and she said the cashier was right. I asked if they had this “new” coupon policy typed up to pass out. She put me on hold and found an email that stated it. She read it to me. It did not state what she or the cashier told me was correct. It said something along the lines of if you use a RR to purchase a product that comes with a new RR, you might not get a new one. I said I understand this. If you use a Unliver RR to buy another Unilever product, you will not get the new RR if it comes with one. I completely understand and knew this before going in. I was not trying to do that. I questioned why it did not mention that they would keep the RR if I use any RR to buy a product, and she said that information came word of mouth. Some cashiers abide by it and some do not know. How in the world can a company give word of mouth to some employees and not others? There was no proof to what the cashier or manger were telling me. Also, how can you have a sign saying “If I don’t ask, it’s free”. It should be changed to “If the Beauty Rep does not ask, it’s free”. The way that it reads now is false advertisement. I am trying to find out the exact coupon policy for Walgreens. Can you please answer the following questions? If possible, can you mail me a print out of them so I can educate a cashier if needed? 1. Can you use more than 1 RR per transaction, given that you have more products than coupons? 2. If you make a return from a transaction involving a manufacturer coupon, how will you be refunded? Per manufacturers, and according to most retail stores’ policies, if an item is purchased using a manufacturer’s coupon, then later returned, the store is to either return the coupon to the consumer or refund the consumer the value of the coupon since the store has submitted the coupon to the manufacturer for reimbursement. To NOT refund the consumer would be considered coupon fraud since the store is keeping the money reimbursed by the manufacturer in addition to keeping the product in question. 3. Can you use a RR to purchase a product that gives a new RR? Is the cashier allowed to keep them? I would love to resolve this issue as soon as possible. I am very upset with the service I received yesterday. I did go to another Walgreens on my way home from brunch and completed the transaction I was not able to at that one. I had never been to that store before, but received great service. The manager was actually behind the cosmetic counter waiting to help the customer behind me. There was not a single problem. I would appreciate a copy of Walgreens coupon policy and an explanation of all of the inconsistencies.

You had the same experience I had the other day at a Wags I dont usually go to. The nasty photo counter lady told me that I could not get a RR if I paid with one; I corrected her to say that the RR had to be from a different MFR..she went on to insinuate that I was cheating the system. She did not know the sales for last week - I did the toothbrush/reach floss (3) and should have gotten 6 RR, got zero. I did the toothpaste, got zero. I paid with a unliver from a few weeks back - in fact, I had done the SAME transaction that morning at a closer Wags and got my RR! SO I knew it was right! The manager heard her yelling at me, so he came over. She told him I used coupons so the RR wouldnt come out (coupons confuse the machine) ?? He scanned my stuff and no RR come out, even without q's. He took my stuff to the front register, scanned it with my coupons again and THEY CAME OUT. Dumb lady, ate her words. I was ticked. I never have issues with the Wags by my house, only reason I went to this particular one is they had everything in stock still. I'm still upset.

Every cashier says the same thing to me. If you use this RR to pay you won't get another. I even had a manager ring me up saturday night and he told me the same thing. Well what do you know, I paid with a $6 RR, and out popped a $1 (velveeta), $3 (colgate), and $4 (neosporin). I love when I'm right. I never had anyone try to take the RR from me yet. I did go to one wags where the manager yelled at the cashier while I was checking out because I used 2 RR's which is "not allowed". He said he didn't care what she said and I just laughed. Every store is different so good luck with your letter.

I just don't think that they understand that the RRs are not generated by WAGs, but rather they are generated by an agreement with a MANUFACTURER. The manufacturer doesn't want you to keep purchasing the items with "their" money, so they block out the RR from printing if an RR from THEM is used. So basically, many cashier's just don't understand that one RR from one promotion WILL work on a promotion from another company. I don't understand why it's that hard to understand, but trying to get some them to understand that is just a frustrating experience... |

I've had a similar experience where they told me it wouldn't print. the manager and cashier swore up and down it wouldn't print. I told them it would and to use the RR anyway. Out popped my new one. They were shocked LOL. Sometimes, there is no getting through to them. I am cofused about the beauty constultant free thing? what is that all about? if you don't ask, it's free? I am lost on what you are talking about there. anyone want to explain? thanks!

This is way out of hand................. today I got told that I was trying to "MANIPULATE THE SYSYEM" by doing 2 seperate orders. WHAT????????????? I have never heard of such nonsense. Young college age fellow would only do my second order if I used "NO COUPONS". I said No Just give me my Q's back ..........Geeze I did 5 orders yesterday at a neighboring Walgreen's.............without a problem. I just hate misinformed cashier's. Sorry I just had to vent of the nonsense. CAN'T STOP THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I have a few stores around me and some are more coupon intelligent than others and I choose carefully which store and what transactions I do. Yesterday, I bought the body wash and paid with the neosporin RR...no problem at all. Great letter, keep us posted. |

I sometimes run into misinformation at Wags regarding the RRs. Thanks to all you friendly people, I know the real scoop. Usually I just solve the problem with a friendly smile and a "Well, can we just try running it through to see what happens?" or something similar. Be sure and let us know when you get a response. |

Wow, keep us informed! I'm curious to see how it works out. So far I've had a lot of luck with getting great cashiers and managers. The last time I went I wasn't sure if a neosporin that had a bonus would still print the RR and the manager came w/me to the register to override if need be. I hope everything turns out good!

I wonder if Walgreens Corp. understands that pretty much most people hate shopping at Walgreens. I rarely see someone posting how they LOVE to shop at Walgreens on a regular basis. Here is my synopsis of how I feel after my transactions at all 3 drugstores. Cvs =Awesome, Fantastic, grinning ear to ear. RiteAid=Fabulous, Happy, Smiling, Can't wait to enter my rebates when I get home. Walgreens=Beaten down, Pissed, Contemplating whether or not I want to bring my neighbors Water Gun and hose down the cashier for being rude. Wouldn't that be great water gun haha or maybe a bicycle horn so that the second the attitude comes out I let em have it. |

When I was at Walgreens last, I had a nice young fella for a cashier who was very helpful. I think I had the unilver rr for $10 and I asked if it will mess up my RR's and he said - don't worry, if it does, I'll get the manager to fix it. Sure enough, my rr didn't print last week and he did a raincheck for RR's for me. Donna |
