OMG!!!!!!!! Something killed my chickens while i was gone over the weekend!!!! I went away for the weekend and had my husbands step dad taking care of our animals over the weekend while we were gone and he gave DH a call who in turn called me (we took seperate vacations whole diffrent subject) and told him that something got into the chicken pen and killen all of our chickens. So i come home today at about 6pm unload the truck and decided to walk around the back and see for my self im not sure what the heck did it but what ever it was got in through the top of the chicken pen. We have the regular chicken house and then have a yard for them that is that is all fenced off even on the top and something caved the top of it in and got in that way and killed all 13 of our chickens. And do you think DH's Step dad takes the dead chickens out of the chicken pen no he leaves them there so by today (monday) i have 13 dead smelly rotten chickens who have been sitting in the hot sun some outside some inside the chicken house for 2 or 3 days and are really really stinky. DH will not be home until tommorow and i can promise you i will not touch them chickens and they are nasty!!!!!! Can you say Maggots everywhere!!!! I will throw up if i have to go near them. If i was taking care of someone elses animals for them and something like that happened i would not leave all them dead chickens in there chicken house especially with as hot as it has been here. I have half a mind to shovel them into a plastic bag and dump them on his front porch!!!!!

seeing as we live almost out in the middle of nowhere there is no telling what it could have been. The funny thing is is that the just killed them they didnt eat them. Where is Kelly when i need her. She has been raising chickens a lot longer than i have and she would probably be able to tell me what it was. So we are getting so new chickens soon we are starting over with babies so that means no eggs until next year but that will be ok my neighor will give me all that i want. And while that babies are still little we can relocate and rebuild the chicken house as we have it behind our house next to the woods maybe that was a mistake maybe we should put it on the side of the house where the big open field is. Maybe it would be less likely to get attacked my predators there. I dont know We have had them for almost a year and this is the first time i have had this happen.

ROFLMAO I guess its possible that it could have been my dog but i would have thought that if it would have been him he would have eaten them because any other time he killed one he ate them but then again any other time he killed one he just killed one and not all of them at once. What to do what to do. We have had him for so long. Its either get rid of him or i cant have any more chickens and i really want chickens. And i hate to get rid of him because he is so good with the kids. Man o Man!!!!!! Well Kelly Some of the Chickens that i just got from you are still alive the took up residency at the nieghbors house with his chickens they someone managed to escape and decided to never come back, LOL not that i can blame them. |

If a dog got in a chicken pen it would eat the chicken I would think and there wouldn't be anything much left to be rotting?????????A snake on the other hand would eat the eggs and kill the chckens if they were trying to protect thier eggs/ But the caved in pen puzzles me??????

We had some walker dogs come through one night and kill chickens..and they left them lying in the yard. I really cannot think of anything but a dog that would tear the pen to get into them. I doubt the coyotes would get that brave unless they were starving, and the coyotes around here have plenty of other resources...I really think it was dogs.
