I have heard the berries are poisonous....I am not sure. You go out in the pasture and you look for the polk sallet, it is the big, green, ugly plant, usually growing really close to the cow patties. You chop it off at the bottom of the stalk, and take it home, wash it, and chop it up and boil it in a pot of water for about 10 minutes (if water wwas boiling when you put it in). Make sure you salt the heck out of your water. Then, some ways you can eat this is: plain as a side dish for a meal, in cornbread or scrambled eggs.

Oh,yes we grow polk sallet(kind of taste like spinach to me). I have always fried the sliced stalks --dipping them in flour,salt and pepper and the greens I bring water to boil, put in greens cook for about 15 minutes--drain the water--I was told you had to -- to remove poision??This I'm not too sure about--refill pan with water then boil them again in water for about 15-30 minutes then drain well and place in fry pan with bacon drippings add a little salt and pepper stir fry for a couple of minutes then serve.We grow it in our backyard--wild of course -brought here by the birds who eat the berries, not by choice....I've not eaten this in about 5 years.. Oh and don't forget most Southerns leave their Christmas decorations and lights outside up all year long..why put them up???..look at all the restaurants and businesses that put outside lights up for decoration the look festive..when Fourth of July comes around it looks festive like Christmas in July.. and Then we are already for the next holiday season...--trust me lights in my area and Santa are still on the lawns and will be for a while if not until next Christmas-and I live in a nice area..some of the houses around me are brand new in the new subdivisions and are listing for sale around $250,000--I don't live in that expensive of a house...mine is about 30 years old...but it does happen. around here.

#1...A true, blood born, from the hills Arkie does not care what anyone else thinks about him/her...this goes for the hillbilly's and the more educated folk here. Most true blooded Arkies have high self esteem and when they git ready to do sumthin, eat sumthin, go somewhere, or whatever....it is because it is the thing to do, and not because it is the thing someone else is doing or think we should be doin.

If you study into this statement.....in the south, I have noticed that anything is acceptable as long as you are being true to yourself. And in my opinion, gay southerners are much more easy to get along with than gay northeners.....see, it's all good in the south

The only thing that my family (my sister's family) hunts that I will eat is pheasant - otherwise I like my meat served on a plate preferably in a restaurant. If I have to prepare it I like it to arrive on white styrofoam with saran wrap around it.

Oh man! The memories! I have eaten squirrel and frog legs and was given the option to have some 'brains and eggs'. Thankfully they asked or I'd prolly gulped that down too. Hubby is a full blown North Fannin County RedNeck (NorthTexas, almost Oklahoma), that is how he describes himself. He would eat deer, squirrel, dove, you name it, but not me, I like my meat arriving on the white styrofoam and plastic wrapped as mentioned above. Otherwise, you just don't know if it's road kill or riffle kill and either one is OFF limits for me.

okay,I can see your piont of view on the domestic pet thing.

I'm not in favor of a playoff for division I.
Now if penn state wins the big10 next year then they will go to the rose bowl.The national championship game will be played elsewhere.They won't be in the national championship game next year...because notre dame and someone else will be...since notre dame will beat penn state during a regular season game.

Believe it or not, I have a big problem with dove hunting. We had a big argument here last year because Josh killed two doves on the power line out in front of the barn....I was furious. Hubby said they are just game birds and to get over it. My opinion is the same as Trish's....they are a symbol of peace. We have compromised.....they can go dove hunting, but they cannot shoot them here on the farm and they have to cook them somewhere else. So funny, I ahve no problem with them killing rabbits, squirrels, deer, turkey, grouse, etc.......but I get all upset over a dove

Yogi the bear. I couldn't tell you what it tastes like. I don't eat it...just cook it.

We have also had turtle soup. Killed this HUGE turtle at our cabin and my MIL drained the blood out by hanging the beast upside down from a tree branch. That thing had to of been 18 inches across. Anyway..that wasn't so bad.

We had to take care of that turtle since the kids were young at the time. It would not leave the propery to go elsewhere and we did try. My MIL days that if you kill something, then you better be eating it (of course, rodents don't count).

Hey Trish...are you a true vegetarian? Because if you aren't, then you should not be eating pork, beef, eggs, etc. God gave us animals to eat (just not dogs or cats..yuck).
