Easy way to remove ticks!

OK, I would have never believed this if I hadn't seen it for myself, but there is an easy way to remove a tick- Softsoap! Put a little softsoap on the tick, give it a minute or two, and they just let go! We were shocked. No tweezers, no worrying about getting the head- they just let go and you can get rid of them. Awesome!

I found one on me the other day! Right on my chest, I guess he thought I was still breastfeeding! I just pulled him off and didn't even think about the head...

I will try it next time we are at my mom's. They are horrible this year. She lives out in the country. After letting the kids play outside last weekend, they each had 4 or 5 on them. They were outside for all of 30 min. They gross me out. Yuck!

They are clearing a lot near us and DS & I walked over to watch the tractors in action. I look down and see a tick crawling up my leg. I pull him off (wasn't attached yet) and we left in hurry. But for the rest of the day I kept feeling something crawling up my leg. Yuck!

I stand corrected. I found two more ticks on my dog last night, so I thought I would give the soap trick another try. I squirted some soap into a plastic cup, then I used a Q-tip to dab a blob onto the tick. I actually watched the clock and made sure that a full minute plus went by. I used a Klenex to wipe as much of the soap off as I could and then used tweezers to pull the bugger out. The both came out in one piece- one was still small and the other one was larger. And then I stuck the ticks in the soap left in the cup to kill them.

Luckily I have a very patient dog who just lay on the floor and let me do all of this to her. I even had to flip her on her back because one of the ticks was on her inner thigh.

Thanks for the tip. I think the first time I tried this, I just didn't leave the soap on long enough!

There is a wonderful product called Ticked Off. It's a little scoop that lifts and removes the ticks. We have woods down the side of our property (7 acres) and our dog frequently gets ticks. Ticked Off removes everything, quickly. I couldn't find it locally (Petsmart carried it when I worked there, but not anymore?) and had to order it online.

If you smoke (and I don't) you can hold the lit end of your cigarette near the tick and he will back out because of the heat (and smoke?). I've seen it done.
