(This was sent to me by a friend) And those of you that live out in the country like we do know what it's like to get tick bites. The tick's are very bad this year, everytime I go out to mess with the horses or any of the many other animal's we have here I end up getting tick's on me and having to pick them off ending up with sore's where they bit me, I tried this and it did work and I didn't have all those itchy sore's that the nasty tick's leave behind, I'm thinking that while removing them in this way it is cleaning the spot where the tick was and also disinfecting it at the same time. >Please forward to anyone with children... or hunters or dogs, etc! > >A School Nurse has written the info below -- good enough to share -- And it >really works!! > >I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a >tick. >This is great because it works in those places where it's some times >difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head >full of dark hair, etc. > >Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. >Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few >seconds (15-20), >the tick will come out on it's own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you >lift it away. >This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was >frequently), >and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me. > >Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging >in any way. >I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to >her back and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. >She used this method and immediately called me back to say, "It worked!" > >Please pass on - everyone needs this helpful hint.

Thanks! Ticks love Alex and he is allergic to them. Yet when he comes back from BM's visitation he's got at least one on him. |

adnil72823, Thank you for that tip, will have to give it a try! I can't stand those darn ticks. One time when we were little we were on vacation and we all got out of the car to go look at a cave along the road and holy moly when we came back the ENTIRE inside of the car was filled with ticks and I mean hundreds of them.My parents worked forever trying to get out as many as they could so we could go on,but we had to keep stopping every so often to make sure we didn't have ticks embedded in us. It was a nightmare!Rebate |

Hairspray works wonders too. Just spray a little on the tick and they usually let go right away. My kids get alot of them around here!

Nail polish remover works well too!!! Also I got a tick remover ( looks like a TSP with a notch cut out of it) . This works good on those easy to reach places!!!

Has anyone ever tried touching an imbedded tick with a hot butter knife (heated over the stove until red)? I have heard that this makes the tick let go, so that you can gently pull it out. I do know that if the tick does not pull away from the skin easily, you should not rip it out, because the ticks head can get stuck under the skin and cause an infection.

| Where do you get these? My dd had Lyme's disease last year and we already found a tick on my littlest ds this year. I don't like Ticks at all.

I haven't tried this because ticks are rare here. I was told you can use flea and tick collars around your ankles when you go out to prevent getting ticks.

I tried the liquid soap trick this weekend on dd and it did not work... I finally had to get a pair of tweezers and I got it. We also have one of those tick remover things but I could not find it to use it.

I always used a hot match after blowing it out but heard that your aren't suppose to do this for some reason. I will try the soap.....luckily I have had two on me and not imbedded and one on my nephew when visiting. I am thinking about researching the lime disease vaccine.

I've been a vet tech for many years. You aren't suppose to use things like a blown out hot match and nail polish remover, etc b/c it can cause an infection where the tick was embedded. Not to mention it might be painful depending on how deep it is. Ticks actually screw themselves in clockwise and that's why they are so hard to remove and sometime the head is left stuck in! Gross! If you don't have a tick remover and the tick is in an easy to reach place just get as close to the base of the tick (near the head) with a pair of tweezers as you can and "unscrew" it. Turn counter-clock wise and ta-da! It releases! Clean the area with peroxide.
