I'm gonna go make this now! I will have to use chocolate cake since that's all I have.

Ok, I made this but I don't feel confident about how the custard turned out. I thought the microwave method was odd but went with it. It took 6 minutes (2 minutes at a time) to get thick but it got really thick. I let it cool but the consistency is lumpy. I proceeded to fold in the cool whip and finished the recipe. It's in the fridge so we'll see how it turns out tomorrow. Can anyone who has made custard tell me if the lumpy is normal? It just doesn't seem right.

Yeah, the custard is supposed to be real thick, and a little lumpy when done.

This sounds great. It is almost like the recipe on the tastefully simple absolutely almond pound cake and that stuff is to die for. You just use jello pudding mix though instead of making your own but it is awesome. So I am sure this will be good too! Thanks!
