What is a good price for a 2lb pork tenderloin?

I have never bought a pork tenderloin before. What's a good, average price for it? I am in south east Texas, if that makes a difference. How much is way too much to pay for it? Are certain brands better than store brand? I'm planning on making slow cooker pulled pork sandwiches.

I'm sorry I do not know. I usually make stuff with the crock pot when I get the meat fresh and usually wait for a reduced price sticker. I usually cook a ton with my crock pot in the winter so I di not recall the prices I pay.

GL and I hope they taste yummy! I love pulled pork.

2.99-3.99per pound is typical for the tenderloins I buy and I am in north west Texas. They have been having alot of sales recently with coupons in inserts as well. Our United Supermarket had it at 2.94 per lb with $1/1 in the inserts for Farmland pork loin. Be sure that they do not have to much fat or you'll just be buying fat instead of meat. Also the already seasoned ones are really good.

In Indiana Meijer has them on sale alot for $1.99/ pound. I just make sure it's not the center cut b/c that has 11g of fat per serving versus 4g of fat for the other cuts, and they both go on sale for the same price. Just at different times. HTH.

i would only buy it when it is 1.99; however, then you normally have to buy a big one - generally 8-10 lbs, but then i cut it up & freeze it.

I only get my tenderloins at Costco they are usually around $2.50 a lb. I do not buy the preseasoned ones ever because they are more pricey and they dry out very fast.

I get them at Sam's club for $1.79 lb-but they are way bigger than two lbs-usually more like 10-15 lbs.
You could use a cheaper cut of pork for pulled pork which would be more flavorful-just trim the extra fat off after you cook it. I get pork shoulder roasts really cheap (.99-$1.29 lb) I know that is a cut that is used alot for pulled pork-sometimes referred to as smoked shoulder-you just cook it slow and low- and really trim the fat from the meat and it will fall from the bone and melt in your mouth.

Thank you ladies so much! I will be using my crock pot for it. I just didn't want to buy some gourmet meat I really didn't need! I'm a new mommy/housewife and just started cooking, so thanks again for being patient with my question!

I agree with" 4my5kds" use the cheapest cut available and use the crock pot. Just be sure to cut off the fat after it is cooked. Make it a day ahead and put the juices in the frig. and the fat will harden then scrape off and dispose.

I make my pulled pork from a boston butt. I usually get them on sale anywhere from 1.29lb-1.79lb. I put it in the crockpot and it's super moist and tender.

Tenderloins do not weigh more than 2 lbs. each, so I don't think some of the PP's are referring to tenderloin (esp. the 10-15 lb. reference); perhaps they are referring to pork loin-? The cheapest I've ever seen for tenderloin is $2.99/lb.

Further, I would not use tenderloin for bbq (or a loin, for that matter); it is too lean for that use and will not produce good results. It would also be a huge waste of money. In the southeast, we use a pork picnic (also called a shoulder), which can be found on sale for .99-1.29/lb.

I was just going to say what you said Kayline. People are confusing "Pork Loins" with "Pork Tenderloins" ~ Loins go for 1.99 a lb on sale here too. I got those Hormel Pork Tenderloins a week or so ago on BOGO with a $1.00/1 q for 3.99 a piece and that was the cheapest I've ever seen them - they're normally 8.99 a piece.
