What are uses for drained off cooking grease?

I see some of you use jars or cans to save your cooking grease. Do you just save until full & throw away or do you use the grease for something? I mean like the grease from hamburger, extra on beef roasts - that kind of thing.

i keep a jar of bacon grease in the fridge, i put it on my grilled sliced potatoes and sometimes in my green beans(gives flavor with out the cost), the rest of the 'dripping' that are not useable for gravy go into a coffee can(metal) and tossed in trash when full.

It depends on what I am frying, If I am frying fries or tator tots I save it for next time in a mason jar also for hush puppies or sopapillas but if frying meat or fish I dont save it it goes in the garbage can. I dont save bacon grease either.

I only save bacon grease. I use it for gravy, frying eggs, cooking beans, to sear meat before it goes in the oven.

I save mine in a plastic container in the frig., if I have extra I freeze it.

Looks like mostly just the bacon grease is reusable for cooking by the responses here. Thank you to everyone who posted!

I save any left over grease from foods to put in my recipes for dog and cat treats. They haven't complained yet, haha.

Why not use it to make soap or a healthy (non-toxic burning) candle? I haven't tried the soap yet because I'm trying to find lye (which is a pain in the butt). I just made a candle though tonight. Go to littlehouseinthesuburbs.com for easy instructions on how to do it. And believe me, it is really EASY!

Once and a while I'll save the drippings from a seared roast (pork or beef, beef being more common in my house) or some from a pound of hamburger meat.. but not often.

I though POUNDS of bacon a month and I save all the grease.

I buy the low sodium bacon (its still high sodium.. but its less..) and I cook it in big batches and zip bag it so I don't have to cook it every day and make a mess.

I drain the grease from that into a small mayo container (glass) and once thats full, everything goes into a tin can or something to be thrown out in the garbage.

I don't have a garbage disposal and I learned the hard way that the fat solidifies in the drain.

I use bacon grease for just about everything.

My boyfriend is a gourmet chef and one of the things he beat into my brain is fat is flavor.

Know how those pancakes at IHOP are crispy yet soft? They fry it right on the cook top with the bacon. Same thing with the eggs and hash browns.

I don't add salt to anything in my house (I'm sodium restricted) but when I fry something up with a bit of bacon grease, it seasons it perfectly!

Especially hasbrowns, tater tots, steaks, hamburgers (turkey burgers cooked in bacon fat taste alot like beef..) eggs, pancakes and so on.

I drain everything thoroughly, but man is it good!

Home made biscuits, made with bacon grease instead of crisco are to die for!

Its not that healthy if you use a ton of it, but probably once a week I make something with less than 1/2 a teaspoon of bacon grease, so its not a ton since my diet is mostly lean anyways and my daughter NEVER gets food cooked like that.

I dont deep fry anything (truth be told I dont like deep fried foods) i just put in enough bacon grease to cover 1/5 of the bottom of my small pan and throw everything in.

If it needs more oil, I add EVOO.

Biscuits and gravy made with grease from sausage is amazing.

Potato soup made in the crockpot with bacon fat is good too.

Yum.

I save both the bacon grease when we have some, as well as the grease from hamburger meat before I add the seasoning and reuse for cooking other meat dishes and potatoes or beans. Fat adds flavor that no added spice packet etc can duplicate, plus it saves oil useage if I can reuse the fat from fatty meats.

If I have spiced drippings from ready cooked meals, they go onto the outside dogs and cats food, helps giving them extra calories and makes great shiny coats, plus they love the extra bit of flavoring over their kibbles...

I know this is not even close to the right answer...

But if you take it outside while it's still really hot, it is pretty effective at killing off weeds.

Funny story, sorry to hijack... when I was in middle school I took home ec and we learned how to make cake frosting-- the kind with crisco and powdered sugar. I decided to make a cake at home to show off my new skill. My grandma always saved bacon grease but she put it back into an old crisco container, which was right there next to the new crisco. I was too new at it to realize they didn't exactly look the same.

(can you see this coming?)

I made strawberry frosting, complete with pink food coloring and artificial strawberry flavoring. But there was a little something extra with that frosting-- hmm what is that odd flavor?--

Bacon grease is great for seasoning your cast iron skillets/cookware. Chicken fried in bacon grease in a cast iron skillet is great and re-seasons your skillet with bacon flavor at the same time. Same with pork chops.

Cornbread tastes better when it's made in cookware seasoned with bacon grease.

I throw my other grease away except for the winter. Add birdseed to your grease container every time you pour off your hot grease. It makes good suet for your feathered friends who would otherwise go hungry when the ground is frozen and/or covered with snow.

Used oil and grease can be use for making homemade bird suet. The birds love it.

I use it to make my dog's "cookies" She has a lot of allergies and I came up with a recipe she loves and it uses bacon grease...or hamburger drippings. I just freeze it in Crystal light containers.
