I recently cleaned out my deep freezer and found some t-bones that have been in there 2 years. Hubby wants to eat them and i want to throw them out. What do you all think.Do you think it is safe? Please help.

Personally, for me it would depend on how they were packaged for freezing. If they were food savered then I would say 'yes', but if they were in original package, or tossed in a freezer bag, probably 'no'. Maybe defrost them and see if there is any difference in apperance, color, smell. Or, you can let DH eat one and see if he gets sick. I'm totally JK on that one. Lynda |

It is some t-bones we got from the butcher, wrapped in a plastic type bag with white butcher wrapping. Defrosting first maybe a good plan, and your second plan to let dh eat one sounds even better.LOL Thanks for the reply. Any other advice? Thanks |

That question has come up on the local boards in my area. the answer is IF the MEAT DOES NOT HAVE FREEZER BURN then it is OK. I personally am a cheapo ... especially when I can get meat at an excellent price and then forget that it is there or the kid throws it in the back and then find .. it is always fine

Ask the butcher you got them from!!!! That's what i would do bc i don't take risks.

I agree, we've always had whole and half beefs in our freezer. Defrost and look for freezer burn, it dries your meat out and there's nothing you can do, short of trimming off the burn. If it looks OK, start to cook it. My mom always said, if it looks good, and your not sure, cook it, it will have a bad odor if it's bad. Never had experienced cooking bad meat till just the other day. BELIEVE ME, you'll know, PU.

I have been a butcher for several years. The meat you are talking about was wrapped in plastic and butcher paper should still be good. I would def thaw it out and take a look! Good luck! PS - I would personally eat it, no problem
