| Ziploc Omelet
Ziploc Omelet Have you ever heard of this? I think my kids would love doing this, even though they only usually eat ham and cheese. Have guests write their name on a quart-size ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker. Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them . Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc. Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake, Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up. Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water. Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. |

This sounds like so much fun! My DH is the one that does all the cooking around here and he would not go for eggs cooked in a boiling pot, but I can see him doing this and cooking them in his favorite skillet! Thanks so much for the idea I am sure that he would be happy to fry up the omelets!

I shared this with my sister who is an avid camper. She thought it would be great when they are on their trips, no pots to clean up!!

Is it really safe? I'm just wondering, isn't there some plastic that gets released into the food at a high temperature? I don't know, I'm just asking.

Safe??? You are all gonna die from something, you might as well have fun with it on the way out. Actually I don't have a clue what that answer would be. But I want to do this when we go camping too.

Heres some information on the Plastic and MicroWaves - which is probably the info you had heard: http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/cookplastic.asp - at this time it is considered an urban legend with no scientific merit.

We did this last year while camping and it was very easy and no cleanup afterwards. We mixed them up at home and kept them cold in the cooler.

We did this camping also. Som much easier, fun and no mess ![]() As far as being safe...growing up we ate the lead paint, played with mercury thermometers while standing around asbestos and turnes out just fine (all exept for that extra eye on the side of my head hmmmm) |

WOW! I made this for my breakfast this morning, and not only does the bag not melt, it's really good! I put salt, pepper, salsa, and cheese in mine. YUM! It even slides out of the bag looking like a perfect omelet.

I just wanted to add that I went to oneof those expensive Meal Makers sessions and this was one of the meals they 'taught' people to make. Pretty funny that it was here on AFC for free a year ago |
