Prayers please for my 3 year old!(now4)

Here is my first thread so I don't have to retype what has been going on:
3 year old vomiting daily

He was actually starting to do better and started puking again He FINALLY has his pediatric GI apt tomorrow so please pray that the tests the dr orders will be quick, painless, and gives us some answers! It has been about 8 months now dealing with this.
Also, I don't usually ask for prayer for myself, but please pray for strength for me - between this, raising 3 other small children, my baby having diarrhea for a month, and not having the time to take care of myself I am about ready for a mental breakdown!

Thank you. I know what it is like dealing with doctors, a sick child, and still having to deal with the rest of the world. At the end of the day there is nothing left for YOU. Please PM me if you ever need to talk.

It went ok,no answers yet though
We did a stool sample, dr put him on Prevacid, and if the stool sample comes back okay (he is checking for bacteria I think or parasites) he will then do an upper GI (check for a twisted bowel).
My son puked 4 times in 24 hours, had a fever (which is usually not the case), then woke up from his nap yesterday complaining of his foot hurting, then vomited again. He has been complaining of his top foot and legs hurting - I kept thinking it was just growing pains but now I am worried it may be connected to everything else going on. (he had also complained of his eyes hurting, but I thought that was his lack of sleep)
I am supposed to call the dr in 14 days to discuss stool sample results, but then it takes another 3 months to get another apt!! A friend of mine has this GI for her daughter and told me to just make the apt now so I am going to call today

the doc put my 7 yr old on prevacid for acid reflux and it does work good and is easy to get a child to take it. she takes vyanse for ADD and started throwing up and refusing to take the yvanse. the doc says it's not from the vyanse but somehow i know it is part to blame. she also had a sore throat from the burning acid, she was throwing up clear fluid not food. i hope you get it worked out soon. try googling to see if you can find what would cause this.

DS was on Prevacid at about 3 months old, it helped immensely.

ETA: The below paragraph is in reference to the leg/foot pain. You simply never know when there will be an unusual connection or odd symptom that points to a much broader issue.

Given the oddness of the vomiting, I would call both the GI doctor and your GP. You simply never know when something is a sign. For example, the above mentioned Prevacid was prescribed to my DS because he was congested for almost 2 months straight but no actual runny nose. They first thought he had a cold then maybe allergies (it was March) but no other symptoms. Finally the doctor said that sometimes acid reflux doesn't come out but can irritate your whole nasal system so let's try acid reflux meds. It cleared him up with in a few days. You never would have thought the two would be connected. I don't know how your DS is, mine is not much a complainer. If yours isn't either, I would definitely make sure the doctors know he has other symptoms. Good luck!

The W Lansoprazole is WAG brand of Prevacid. IIRC it is 15 mg with 14 pills. It is $6 FARR until tomorrow 6/09. You still have time to get some if you haven't. That'll be a lot of savings for you in case Prevacid works for him. If you have some $10 RRs from Brainstrong and/or Omega Fish Oil, you can use it to buy the Lansoprazole. You'll be out very little OOP if you can get them by tomorrow compared to what you have to pay for later, even if the bigger boxes go on sale.

I hope the test results come out conclusive as to the root cause of his symptoms. I know it can be very frustrating if all tests come out normal but patient's symptoms remain. Among adult patients, we've dealt with malingerers and it becomes a challenge especially for complicated cases involving compensation and disability insurance. But we're dealing with a pedia patient here and this poses more challenges.

Praying for your lil one Marcie. I hope he gets well soon, he's fortunate to have a mom like you.

Hi Marcie Just want to say I really feel for you. I also have small children and when they do not feel good, your heart ache for them. And in your case, no one knows what is wrong with your little one, so it makes it 100% worse. Whenever unknown comes into factor, it makes it a very harsh situation. Hang in there, I'll be praying for you and your little one.

He has been on zantac and that didn't work, he was already on prevacid, but it was the kind that dissolved on his tongue so he chewed it and spit it out. I have been googling for 8 months LOL. My first thought was celiac disease, he had sooo many of the symptoms, but blood tests were negative. Then I thought bowel obstruction, now that I am reading about the foot pain and the other symptoms I "missed" I wonder maybe Chrohn's disease (but I think that would have shown up in blood test maybe, not sure) I am worrying myself crazy and need to stop googling-LOL

I hope he gets well soon, he's fortunate to have a mom like you.
thanks JMB, I did get a few already (the ONLY thing they had in stock at 3WAGS around here) but, how do I get him to take it? He doesn't take pills. Is it capsules you just dump into food or drink? Right now we have the medical card which usually pays for our prescriptions (and it is liquid form), but when I went to pick it up I guess they called the Dr to preauthorize it or something - prob arguing that he doesn't need it or something stupid, gotta love insurance

DH takes this so I checked one of the pills and I think there's granules(?) inside it. If it has, you can open it and then put the granules on Welch's grape jelly or honey or any of his favorite food and hopefully, he takes it. I wouldn't advice it on drinks because he may not finish the drink but with a teaspoonful of grape jelly or honey as carrier, you know he got the full dose. I know it can be challenging to make kids take meds but we have to do what we have to. Just hang in there, I hope he gets well soon.

Crohns will not show up in a blood test. I have had symptoms indicative of Crohn's or ulcerative colitis for the past two years. I had to have a colonoscopy to rule them out. The first thing they did was the blood test for Celiac. When that was negative, they then scheduled a colonoscopy and endoscopy at the same time. If you get to that point, I highly suggest you ask to have them both done at the same time. Some doctors prefer to do one, see what it shows, then do the next. However, the prep is no fun, being put under is no fun (though not bad considering other times I have been under but no one likes and IV), going through it all is no fun. If they have to do one, hopefully they will do both and get it over with. Your poor DS, none of this is any fun for him.

Thanks for the input Quazel. If his stool sample comes back ok then they will do an upper gi, will that show anything or should I request a colonoscopy/endoscopy? He also mentioned possibly doing a scope (I am assuming down his throat) Yes this is no fun for him (or us, but mostly him). He is terrified to even go into a drs office at this point. He won't stand on a scale, won't let anyone touch him. Before this started he was a happy fun loving lil boy who loved people and was not shy, now he is so shy he refuses to talk to anyone that he isn't super comfortable with. (his preschool eval was a nightmare and potty training is about impossible right now with his diarrhea problems) He grunts or screams if people even try to talk to him
It all makes me so sad

I am sorry, I don't know the answers to scoping vs. the oscopies. My DS had an eating disorder and the GI doc wanted to scope him in a few months if he didn't start eating by her cut off date. DH and I decided to pass so I am not familiar with how they handle kids, I only know what I went through in February. Your poor, poor DS. I can't imagine how scary and painful this is for him. I would imagine potty training is a low priority right now. With DS' eating disorder, we had to reprioritze quite a few things. It didn't matter, your son's health is the only priority. I hope you get answers soon and your son can get the help he needs to return to being a happy, healthy child. Reading your post makes me want to hug the poor thing.

I didn't even know kids could have eating disorders. I suffered from anorexia and bulimia for 13 years and thought I knew all there was to it, but I was wrong! Is your son doing better now? To be honest, I don't push my kids with potty training - my older two did not potty train til they were almost 4 and in preschool (one month of having a routine at school did the trick) they just wanted nothing to do with it and no amount of bribing, encouragement, etc worked. I get a lot of judgment from people though but I will just ignore it because you are right, his health is top priority. If he goes to school and there are problems we might just have to wait another year (although, then we will have to figure out something for his speech because he did not qualify for services, but was told he is definitely delayed so he will be able to get help at the preschool)
