| Not welcome in church
[b][/B I have never heard of anyone being told you are not welcome at this church anymore. Both of these couples are divorced. Due to the fact that the ex spouse goes to the same church. Have you ever heard of that. I am at a loss of words as to what to say to my friends. My church would never do such a thing. I don't want to vent I am just in awe over this. Any thoughts?]

It's probly the people who "run" the church instead of the church itself we ran into this with our son. I was a SS teacher and very involved my son started having trouble and was not welcome there and we got a letter from a couple saying they had been there longer and if we didn't leave they would have to take action because they had been there longer and it was their right to be there and with our son they couldn't because their son had been in trouble also yet they wanted to blame it on our son. It took both of them to get into trouble. We talked with the pastor but this "group" of people seemed to have most hold on the church. Not fair at all and made me decide I didn't want to be part of a place like that. Alot of smaller churches especially have a "group" like that who think it's their way.

That's sad. We have 2 people at my church who used to be married and are now divorced. They still go to the bible studies and to service, they just sit away from each other. I wonder what this church was wanting to accomplish, I just can't imagine turning someone away unless they're causing harm.

I know some churches wont allow you to be a member if you have been divorced but that doesnt mean you cant attend or are not welcome just not an official on the books, have a say so in how things are run member. Was it maybe something like that? Or just told they were not welcome and their ex spouse was or? I dont know that doesnt sound very Christian like to me. |

Please do not allow this to make you feel all are this way. I was brought up in church and have never heard of anything like this. I hate that this has happened, maybe they can not see it is not very Christian like and it sounds like Satan has a hold on some of its members. Can not imagine someone pushing someone else away from church. However, I also think it is not very nice when people judge those that wear pants etc..to church. I feel like people should accept others, especially in church. Would God have turned someone away for what they wear or a choice they made? Haven't we all fallen short, committed a sin etc?? Sorry- not trying to preach, just my opinion. I am sorry your have friends going through this! I would pray for the church , and the people that are members and your friends. Good luck!

This is why I don't participate in organized religion. I can have a relationship with God very comfortably in my own home where I don't need anyone else's "approval."

I would say they should consider themselves lucky to have discovered what a shallow minded church they were supporting...sorry they had to experience such heartache and rudeness but tell them to consider how much better off they are knowing the true beliefs as action ALWAYS speak louder than words.

After calling the church they feel that his ex wife shouldn't have to see her ex with another woman and children in "her church" that was the bottom line. It was better that he and she find a a different church in the area. I figured at the point I will leave it be and let them decide how to handle it. I am so thankful that I can go worship without anyone judging me...I have never not felt welcomed. If I was covered head to toe in mud not a soul where I got to church would ridicule me. Now mind you of course people would wonder but they always tell people god doesn't care what you wear he just wants you to come. So guess will do a lot of praying and let them know that we are in there corner.

We have since found a church and really feel a part of it, they are open and share all their problems and help not judge.

My dad's X girlfriend of 12 years is now married to the choir director which makes him continuing to worship at that particular congregation very difficult. Positions of power make things difficult. My dad used to be an active member in that choir for 30 years too.

We had a couple in our sunday school class that divorced. She cheated on him She was awol for a bit, but then came back to ss. She was kindly asked to join a ladies class as she was no longer married. Someone from the class whose dh is a pastor was sweet enough to also join her in her new class.

Wow, most of the churches here offer programs FOR divorced people. Its not God's plan that ANYONE should be turned away from worship.

I sad when people are told they are not welcome in GOD HOUSE. Everyone should be welcome there. Race, age, wealth, how you dress and esp martial status should not matter.

I live in an area that is very conservative, and I heard the same thing happen here. I don't understand it b/c wasn't it the people that needed help the most that Jesus always sought out to help. I don't understand this. I can imagine it would be really hard to see your ex husband with another woman, but I don't think it was the church's place to make this decision. When divorce happens most of us are presented with a bunch of uncomfortable positions, but that is part of being an adult is healing, picking yourself up and moving past them. If the ex-husband was intentionally making it uncomfortable then that is another story. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, there are many churches and religions out there that will tell people they are no longer welcome because they get divorced/gay/goth/punk/hot/etc, so on and so forth. Some churches are more open, some are not.
