| DH still laid off... overseas?
A year and a half later... DH is still unemployed. I know sooo many other families still struggling with loss of jobs, and they (the news/media) say that the economy is getting back on track!? ![]() Some days, I try to keep the faith, that something will come for DH... but it's so hard. I laugh, and I cry... just wondering when things will get back to normal. Does anyone happen to know of Co's/Websites that hire overseas in construction? DH was close to leaving last month, for overseas.. when the job he applied for was put on hold. He has his passport (with money we didn't have, the Co promised to reimburse 3x the amount, but that can't happen until he starts the job), Visa and has received clearance to work for the Government. Any websites or Co's someone is willing to share, please PM me? I would be forever grateful (and so would DH). I did receive two Co's last fall from a fellow AFC'r. Nothing has panned out to date, but DH still tries. Thank you for at least making it this far in reading. |

Dear Mocha- I understand your frustration. My DH has been laid off since august. Many of the positions he is applying for he is in competition with 300+ or more individuals for a general labor position. Those positions that area available want to barely pay above minimum wage for a job he'd have to drive an hour each way for, making it close to a loss in income for us if you factor in travel costs and daycare (he's currently a SAHD for 2 kids). Losing money to work?! Only in this economy! Good luck... And hopefully your DH can stay closer to home and still find what he is looking for! |

I feel your pain. A few years back when things were generally better hubby got laid off and was out for a year. He is in computer support where years ago our phone rang off the hook for jobs. Not now. He finally found something that was supposed to be 10 weeks, and so far has lasted 3 years. No benefits, he is considred a contractor, but we can squeak by with his salary and kids are on NJ family health insurance. We do pay for insurance OOP for he and I, and its not cheap. I hope you can make it thru and he can find something closer or in a different field.

Sweetie, I know exactly how you feel! My hubby was out of work for 3 years after Hurricane Katrina. He spent the time rebuilding our home, but it was very stressful b/c we had no income except what I was making on eBay. I don't know anything about overseas work, but just wanted to offer my support & let you know that I hope things will get better soon. I will keep y'all in my thoughts & prayers. My hubby is in sales & actually *created* a job to someone who wasn't really hiring, but his boss was impressed w/ his panache. It's still day to day & it's such a shame that none of us have the job security our parents did. ![]() Good luck & here's hoping y'all will get great news very soon! Another word of advice is to stay strong & support your DH. It's very hard on men when they feel like they are failing to provide for the family. Hugs to you & your family, Lorelei |

Thank you everyone for such kind thoughts and prayers. I knew a lot of you would all understand... and know where we are coming from ie: searching/struggling for jobs right now. We both of our days, I try very hard to show support.. and to help the kids understand what is going on as well. Keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers as well... Lorelei, I'll pray that your DH's job will continue to grow stronger and he can stay there for a long time! ((( hugs ))) |

Mocha, Don't give up, like they say "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger"! I bet you could give Mike Tyson a run for his money. My family lives in Miami and I know that my uncle recently (last thursday) relocated to IL for the summer for a construction job there. He has been in construction for 35+ years, 20years with the same company and they laid him off last summer. It was horrible for him. Anyhow, pm me and I will find out some more info on the company. Good luck and I will keep you guys in my prayers!
