Im almost at a lost for words. my husband just came home from work said he just got laid off, not sure when he will be back to work. he is the only one working right now as i only work seasonal as a photographer. he will have a partial pay check of about 50 dollars and im worried because our water bill is due on the 31st, and thats not goign to cover it. im not sure what to do, or what will happen. but we could use some positive thoughts, maybe a prayer.

So sorry to hear this. I am sure you will make it thru, I never thought we could. We have been going thru this for several years now with hubby and computer jobs ( I don't work, long story) get job, get lay off, (no return in future, but not fired) and again, found new job, lasted one year, layoff again. Now on another job, but no benefits, but we can scrape by on pay.

thank you for all the kind replies. my heart feels heavy with doubt and saddness. i know we will pull through. we already called the landlord to let him know. he says he understands. husband is going to call our case worker tomorrow for department of social services, see if we can get some help with the water bill. i need to call the electric company and see how much we owe. i just hope he gets unemployment before our car insurance is due, sometime next week. i guess this is a lesson to us, always have a savings. even if its only 20 bucks a week. its better than nothing when it comes to this.

Im very sorry to hear what you are going through - unfortunately I found out today that I will not be employed very much longer also. I am in the transportation business (dispatcher) and since the recession business has been very bad with not a lot of imports & exports.

Everyone knows that they should have savings but it is so hard to stay afloat AND save money in the process so dont beat yourself up. I am going to count on my coupons more than ever if I lose my job!!!!

Things might be tight for a while but you will pull through!! I know how hopeless it feels right now but everything has its blessings and I really believe everything does happen for a reason. Good luck to you and your family and keep us posted on how you are doing!

I am so sorry to hear this. Go to 2-1-1 Call Center Search This is a national database which will provide you with locations that can assist people in a fix. Once you go to this database put in your zipcode, city or state and it will show you locations in your area that can help with your utilities, waterbill etc, etc. I would also check the Salvation Army. They are always willing to help with a waterbill. Keep your head up. You are already helping with additional expenses by couponing. I am familiar with this because I work for a non-profit agency in Texas that works with people in a fix. I hope the places in NY are as good as the Texas locations.

Since you are a good photographer I would take a few more pictures at basketball, football games, recitals and post the pictures on a website so people can pick the picture they like an order them from you.

Go to Vistaprint.com and make some business cards, but while you wait, print out some pieces of papers with your information on it so at the game with your free website you setup (maybe godaddy) you can start making money quickly. Snapfish, shutter and other locations have a lot of deals that do not cost you money and you can print the pictures at walgreens until you earn a little more money.

I have a friend that does this at my 10 year old sons basketball games and we pay $4 a picture. Parents love to purchase pictures of their children and we love the convience.

well, i checked the 2-1-1 call center search and there isnt anything in my area. not a one! goodness, gonna have to look into the salvation army and maybe churchs. we have an urban mission too. wish me luck!

another idea for your photography...that is if you have your own equipment...reach out on sites like facebook and such and offer to do sittings for a small fee...most people would love to have good pictures but don't want to spend a fortune...if you price it right you could get a lot of business especially with easter and mothers day just months away...my husband is a professional photographer and way back when we did this to stay afloat during some lean times...hope your husband finds a new job soon and things work out for you and your family

I hope you guys can find new jobs quickly, and the suggestions about your photography are really good, just find a way to be creative and sell your pictures.

If you haven't done it already get rid of anything you DO NOT have to have to live. For instance cell phones, house phone, internet, cable etc. I know sometimes we think we need this, but in all honesty we don't. If you already don't have those things, then look into other ways to get your bills down ASAP and sell anything you can to earn cash to pay your bills. Clothes, books, jewelry, toys, anything that will get you cash and keep you afloat until you or your husband finds a new job.

we dont have those luxuries. havnt had cable in 3 years, no house phone, no internt (bounce off someone elses), we have cell phones but they are like trac phones so we only buy minutes if we can. basicly what we pay for is our rent ($625) Water (currently $170 for last 3 months, we had a friend and her 3 kids staying with us otherwise it would of been lower), car insurance ($70), Electric (im not sure right now). thats about it. we dont eat out, or do any extra things. we enjoy each others company and watch movies at home.
