Today DH got the news that he may loose his job within the next year. He works for a contractor for the Air Force and they Air Force has decided not to renew their contract for his department but to make those jobs civil service. He was told today that before Oct 1, 2010 his job will no longer be a contract job. Now he has to apply for the job as civil service (rather than the contractor he is with now). Please keep in your thoughts and prayers that he will continue in his same job and just change employers (from contractor to Air Force). We know that this will mean a pay cut even if he does get to stay, so keep that in your thoughts and prayers too please. He's worked so hard to get where he is and I hate to see him take a step back! He is our only income for a family of 5.

My hubby took a buyout from his company a couple of months ago. We still get his salary (-40% tax that the state takes) but its once a month and will be for a year. In the mean time, he is going back to school and I'm clipping coupons like crazy! I'm so glad I found this site!

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers. Yes I'm very grateful that we do have such an advanced notice. I have been and will continue to stock pile, but at the same time we will be trying to save as much money as possible. So from now on only things we will use or moneymakers, no more just because it's really cheap!

Well it's official, his department will not be transferring to the Air Force, but their jobs will simply end on or before Oct 1, 2010. There are only 4 people in his department, but still it's disheartening. They were advised to start looking for jobs and if they find one take it.

My hubby is an environmental chemist. He works in a lab, but the lab will be closing. They were told that if 1 chemist leaves the lab they will more than likely be able to continue until Oct 2010 but if 2 chemist leave then they will close the lab then as they cannot continue to run the lab with just 2 chemist.

I'm sorry for the turn of events. Sometimes, being overqualified/highly skilled is a disadvantage in economies like this. My cousin is a marine biologist and he is also about to lose his job with nowhere to transfer to Another cousin in Crossville, TN practices Family Medicine and he is ready to move out of state since most of his patients can no longer pay <sigh>

Just hang in there, I agree with your plan to just buy stuff you need and say pass to other deals NO matter how tempting. If you cannot move them for profit, better conserve your funds for now.
