My dd and I want to work together and change our family's way of eating. We know what the good/bad food choices are but we are having a hard time planning menus. Is there a website where you can make HEALTHY choices and have a menu generated for you? I've done some web searches on this and really can't find anything that is both health/calorie conscience and worthy of my time. Wish us luck... Our biggest obstacle will be my "steak and potatoes" man. I'm wondering how long we can go without adding a creamed soup to a meal. We need ideas STAT!! |

Have you tried All recipes – complete resource for recipes and cooking tips It has tons of different recipes! I love this website and use it often. There is a section on budget cooking that you can break down further into healthy budget cooking. You can also search by ingredient (if you only want to use chicken or fish). Just a thought...not sure if it is exactly what you are wanting, but might be worth looking at! Good luck!

I realized with my family it was small changes over a time frame. I started cooking more at home that was our first big change and then slowly started switching the big heavy meals to something lighter and healthier. Then we started adding extra vegtables to meals and lowering the meat content. I noticed with my DH he didn't really notice the difference and now I would say about 85% of our meals are extremely healthy and while we have "fatty meal days" two or three times a month it is so much healthier than it was before!!! Two of our favorite meals right now are stir fry and veggie pizza. Both loaded with vegtables, super easy to make, and light which helps so much with this GA heat! I don't have any websites but it does work over time.

I love Menus 4 Moms too. If you sign up for their pay menus there are healthy choices, including weight watchers, vegetarian, and angel food ministries menus. I use the free recipes and go through the archives to choose a week we like everything from. Although it isn't healthy, it helps and I've lost weight because the portions are just enough to feed my family of 5 (DH, me, a teenage boy, a 10 year old boy and a 3 year old). We sometimes have leftovers but rarely. The meals are easy and I do adapt some by using lower fat options, etc. We save a lot of money using the shopping list software as I limit myself to whats on the list (I add what we need) and items that are at least 75% or more off (usually I won't by anything over a $1 except meat) if its not on the list. |
