| What do you think of this kitchen?
This is quite high on our house hunting list, but I'm thinking that kitchen just does not have enough storage space. Is it just me? I know you'll all give me the skinny from a stockpiling perspective. DH is in love with this house but the kitchen is the most important room to me and I'm not sure I could fit everything in there! Y'all can help me house hunt ![]() Kitchen Phooey, the link doesn't go right to the kitchen. In the drop down 'view' menu, select kitchen. |

It is very pretty but I agree, not enough storage. Is there a pantry?

Yeah it's that white door to the side of where the fridge goes. Not very big at all! I know the kitchen is gorgeous, there's just not enough of it and that worries me. I've got pots/pans, utensils, storage containers, dishes...where would I put everything? DH already saw the house and made an appt. for us both to go next weekend. I just wish there was a spot in that or the breakfast room somewhere to put a free standing pantry. He's like a kid in a candy shop about that house... |

First off, the house is beautiful! Second, I am assuming this house has a basement, right? In my old house, I had a basement, but no pantry! We had tons of shelves in the basemant, so we kept a regular supply of food upstairs, along with the everyday pots/pans, appliances...when I ran low in my cupboards, I ran down to my little store in the basement and replenished my supply! Don't let the kitchen deter you from this beautiful house, I think it is great! |

could you put shelves in the laundry room for stockpile things and extras. i think it is a lovely house, but honestly for the size and style, you're right, there isn't much storage.

It doesn't have a lot of storage. You could put a lot in the pantry and I store a lot in my cabinets in laundry. (I know that sounds aweful) Beautiful house though!!!

Isn't the last picture the inside of the pantry? It seems like a decent closet size to me. You'd have to be pretty organized, but it wouldn't be too bad. You could also put shelves for like paper products in the garage.

I would use the panty to the best of your organizing ability and then use the basement. That is what I've done in our new home!

In addition to the other comments you could use a hanging pot/pan holder for the pans. It would look great in there!!

I think that the house is beautiful, but I have a small kitchen and well I have run out of room to store things. While the house may be beautiful in a few months are you still going to like it. I am sold on the house just because of the bathroom.. I have two small bathrooms and a small kitchen, but I didn't take any of that into consideration when we bought our house. All I thought was wow 5 bedrooms huge backyard, lots of room for actual people to sleep. Now I kind of wish I would have thought more on the kitchen and bathrooms (this was before I started to stockpile though) The only other thing that I see is the laundry room. You can put shelves or target has some nice cabinets that you could put in there for some storage space! The only thing I can say is if you think you will be unhappy with the kitchen keep looking. There will always be another beautiful house!

The last picture looks like the laundry not the pantry? If you were gonna put like all your food in the pantry and then all the upper and lower cabinets were for your "stuff", I would say you could pry do it. It is lovely - i'm sure you would love it!!

I would DIE for a kitchen like that!! Just like what was posted before, I don't have a lot of room in my kitchen for storage, so I use my basement. I have my "little pantry" set up at the end of the stairs and it works great!! I have my DS go down and get me what I need! He loves to "shop" for Mommy. The house it beautiful!!! I hope you go with it!!

Nope....basements aren't common where we live. I do have one right now, though. We live in a house built in the mid 50s and the house in the pic is almost triple the size of what I've got now. We've sacrificed long and hard for a home like that and because there's such a sales slump for selling new homes where we're moving, that house is MUCH less than you'd think it is. DH and I will be buying our very first home together with whatever we chose! We're living in the house he bought in his mid 20s and I'm so excited to finally get something I helped pick out too! While the master is on the 2nd floor, there is one bedroom on the main floor and I'm wondering if I could turn the closet in that one into a pantry? The bedroom would be used as a guest room. I'm feeling better about that kitchen if the closet pantry in the bedroom would work out. It also will all depend on whether or not my dining room furniture will fit! There's so much to think about with this house buying stuff. |

It's a lovely home! You'll find plenty of room to put stuff and you can always store under beds, if need be!

A couple of suggestions: I take all of my specialty pots and pans, (turkey roasting pan, special occasion bundt pans etc,) and put them in rubbermaid storage containers, label them and store in garage. (you only use them once or twice a month so why take up valuable space). There is space at the end by the oven on the wall for a free standing armoire, bakers rack, something that would increase your storage for items you need. I store things on the top of the shelves (between the cabinets and ceiling) in antique picnic baskets and other covered baskets. I have a diagram that shows where things are in each area of my kitchen. (I store cookie cutters, loaf pans, extra storage containers up there). The key to this is not forgetting what is up there! I also thought of a pot and pan rack, it would give you more space. It is amazing how much you can get in an island that size too. You could put a shelf on the end of the island for cookbooks. It is a gorgeous house, but look around in the same neighborhood, there may be others that are similar to what your DH wants with a different floor plan. Congrats on your first new house together! |

That kitchen is beautiful - I would love to cook there! I have a smaller kitchen and laundry room than those, and I do pretty good with storage.

| Honestly...yes. I had a very small...and I mean very small ...for years. I think there were 5 cabinets total! When I moved and got this one...I was in heaven. I have 27 cabinets and a pantry(albeit small but still). I never thought I would be able to fill all of the cabinets. Well 4 years later...I am hunting new places to store stuff! My current kitchen is actually very similar to the photo. Except I have another side. I like the placement of the sink. I have 2 sinks and always use the one closest to the stove. You could add a curio or shelving to the right of the stove if your kitchen table isnt too big. I also love that you can put stools right up to your counter...wish I had that feature. Shop around though...there should be plenty to choose from! Its a buyers market!
