Drive How do you buy a new car?

Buying a car can usually takes a bit of effort to research because our top priority is to save and get a good deal. In your case, what is your most cost effective methods in considering a car? I'll be purchasing a vehicle for a personal use and I only need to decide where to start. I usually use the internet to find out the dealer cost but my least option is to go to banks or lending company and apply for a loan. I want to make sure and get the best possible deal. How do you buy a new car?

IMHO - Best way to buy a 'new' car is to buy a used car! It's old news that you will be throwing money out the window the minute you drive a new car off the lot! Every car you see driving down the road is a USED car.

Here is what I do. I decide on the vehicle I want, and what trim level and options I want, colors that would be my preference, etc. I look at dealer cost on the internet, find as much info as I can about that, and research what promos that auto brand typically has at what time of year. I compare new car pricing on KBB, Edmunds, NADA, etc for the vehicle I am looking at.
Then I email the internet sales managers at ALL local dealerships for that brand (i.e. Nissan) within a 50 mile radius, telling them I want their best price on the specifics I am looking for. Don't worry if they don't have it in stock, they can find one for you and trade the other dealer for it. In the case of my last car purchase, it was 6 dealerships. I immediately eliminate any dealerships where it is obvious they paid NO attention to what I was asking for and offered me pricing on models/colors/trims I had no interest in. That brought it down to 4, and I eliminated the highest priced one and narrowed it down to 3 dealerships. I then told them each I had quotes from two other dealerships and again asked for their BEST possible price. At this point, if you are agreeable, you can start speaking to them on the phone because they will be interested in talking to you. In fairness to each, I did not disclose the actual pricing of their competitors but I did tell them where they currently stood. In the end, I saved about $2000 over the initial quotes and the bottom line one I chose was $600 less than the closest competitor with a 7 year power train warranty included. I got exactly what I wanted, the entire process took about a week.

It depends how big your family is. I prefer a big car. Relatives always visit and I want a spacious and comfortable one for my kids. I got it from a car dealer. Banks always give a higher interest rates than car dealers and credit unions.

Xenta,

OMG! I don't know you, but I'm going to be a better friend to you than your so called "friend".

You truly honestly shouldn't consider taking any financial advice whatsoever from that person. Based upon your friend's financial advice, I can strongly suspect that your friend has their own financial nightmare to deal with.

I really hate to tell this, but if you already have financial problems, you cannot afford to purchase a new car. That will do nothing but push your head under water and drown you.

A payday loan service is nothing more than a predatory loan sharking business that preys upon desperate foolish people. While you may be in a desperate situation, you don't have to allow yourself to be made a fool.

Another predatory lending practice is "title loans". The way this scam works is, you have to use your title (car, motorcycle, etc.) on a loan sharking rate loan that is significantly lower than the value of the property being used as collateral. The interest rates are extremely high and they don't care if you can't afford the loan, because you will either pay them or they make their money by taking your property.

Furthermore, I forewarn you that there are also predatory used car dealers that make their money by reselling the same cars over and over. The way that game works is, they sell customers used cars that they know they cannot afford. They intentionally direct customers in that direction. They have people trade in their current car and pay a down payment. The person drives off the lot in their new to them car. Shortly after, they can't make the payments, so the car is repossessed, so the customer ends up losing their newer car, their trade in and their down payment, and the dealer resells the car again in the same manner. Some of those cars are resold multiple times this way, not to mention, the trade ins are also providing sell stock. A good sign to watch for is any used car dealer that refuses cash sells and requires financing, with financing being arranged through them.

Again, don't ever consider any financial advice your "friend" offers.
