| I don't really understand...
I have been a member of my local freecycle for about a year. (If you are unfamiliary with freecycle -- check out freecycle.org -- it is basically local yahoo group where you can offer things for free. Most cities/counties have a freecycle group to my knowledge. To keep them out of the dump. Yesterday, I posted that I had 83" vertical blinds. Within 4 hrs, someone picked them up.) Anywho.... today I posted on Freecycle that I have a bag of boy's 3T/4T summer clothes. To please email me if interested but that I would not be notifying anyone until tomorrow morning (mainly b/c I have been spending the day cleaning and figure I might have more to add to the bag as the day goes on) In the post I clearly stated where I live. What I don't understand is this one email I received from a mother begging for the clothes BUT then stating that she has no transportation to come get them. And she lives 40 min south of me. Now, I do have a kind heart and IF she had lived somewhere within the routes that I travel during the week, I'd consider dropping them off. But 40 min?? No... puzzled over why she'd even bother to email me. Ok...just rambling....maybe someone has insight that I can't see. |

Lynda I too freecycle and this year our board went nuts! The lady who owned it closed it down she got so mad and thank goodness we have new owners and she is much much better. But don't feel guilty I would not drive 40 minutes to her because the rules on freecycle are that the item offered is free and they must pick it up. You are within the rules and she is the one with the problem. If you want her to have them I would just email her and tell her that she can have them but that she must pick up or have someone pick up for her. You can tell her your tied down at home or anything. The simple thing to do would be to give them to another and as often as clothes are listed someone will have some closer to her sooner or later.

Darlene -- nice to know that my freecycle isn't the only one that goes crazy at times. I wasn't planning to offer it to this lady-- just thought the email/thought was odd. I have had 14 emails about the clothes... they sure are a hot item.

Our freecycle has become a joke...a while back there were a bunch of people with the craziest wants. EX: One lady wanted a ball python...excuse me, I don't think anybody would be throwing one of those away...give me a break. Plus, ours just has not become popular enough yet...maybe when it gets bigger it will get better.

LOL.....I was being extremely nice when I posted...what I wanted to say is: If you can't buy it, how are you gonna feed it live food every 2 weeks???????? I just admire the people that give so much and keep giving even when they know a lot of their giving is being abused.

Lynda there are some in every town/state! Our freecycle turned into a 3 ring circus. To put it politely some of the woman were just idoits! I joined when looking for a freezer and to make a long story short basically DH spent 2 hours there trying to get the freezer only for hem to break it getting it from the basement. So basically he moved it to the street for her for trash. It was there when they bought the house and she never even thought ot make sure it could come out! Seemed they remodeled and never moved the freezer. Her DH refused to help and left on his bike. After that I stopped going there all together.

LOL Our freecycle here covers easily about a 60+ mile territory. It turned into a lot of self promotions and ppl trying to sell stuff like some sort of c/o service book.....you know the form one that starts off pretending two moms ar talking at th eplayground. Plus ppl were asking for bedroom stes, playstations, computers, etc all the time. It was filled with more wanted posts then anything.

I belong & don't even read the daily digests anymore! I gave away some stuff & that worked out great, but when I posted that I was looking for some two line phones, two people responded, then I got back to them, then they never got back to me...oh well! I found one on clearance at Target anyway :smileface
