Star Stimulus Check question......what do you think?

If a stay-at-home Mom and her DH file jointly.......will "they" get the $1200 or just the $600?

I also stay at home and file "jointly" and I thought we got the $1200. My DH said guys at work said you get $600 because we both don't work. Not sure what we'll get but hoping for the $1200 and will be grateful for the $600.

I am a SAHM but I worked and had to file a tax return for last year, so I am guessing we will get 1200.00--at least I hope so. It is already spent *bites nails*.

If you go to the irs website, you can enter your info off of your tax return and it will tell you much you should get.

I work part time at a tax office...and my understanding from my boss is:

If you are married and file jointly, and one parent is a stay at home parent with little or no income, you should still qualify to get atleast 300 for the nonworking/nonincome parent, and 600 for the working one, and 300 per child.

The website is here: Economic Stimulus Payments Information Center

Just click on Calculator.

It says we are eligible for $900. I would imagine thats $600 for my Dh and $300 for my DS since I am a stay at home mom. Atleast, that's my guess!

According to my sister (the accountant), we researched this very thing, as a SAHM, you still work for a living. Although we do not pull a "check" we are still employed by our own households. Therefore we qualify for $1200 check (plus $300 for each child living with us under the age of 17).

Hope that makes sense, we all know we work for a living and I guess the gov't knows it now too!!

i'm under the impression, from reading an article in an economic paper, that you get $600 plus any taxes that you paid. because my husband and i paid $64 in fed taxes, we'll get $664

Thanks, I just entered in all of our info and it say we are eligible for $2100. I would assume $1200 for us and $900 for my kids. That is with me being a stay at home mom.

That is wierd. I did the calculator and it says we are eligible for $1800. I am a SAHM too (no income on side). We have two kids. Looks like $1200 plus $300 each kid.

caseyrusso-
According to the IRS.gov website, you file your taxes normally, whatever you get back there or pay is completely seperate from this particular thing.

I just got off the phone with the IRS - no live person. But it said approx one week before your check is mailed you will get a notice of the amount to expect as well as when the check will be mailed! So look for that!

Well, from the looks of the basic information on the website, seniors on social security are left out in the cold. I hope I am wrong but it looks as though since we both receive SS we are not eligible. I also work part-time. Our gross income isn't much even with SS. Well, I'll wait and see. Perhaps I read it wrong. ??????

It's not a matter of who works, it is how you file. Married Filing Joint will get $1200 if you qualify for the rebate and $300 per child.

Actually, in the letter I received, it says that even if you don't have to file (ie if you are on SS), you should file a special form for 2007 to claim your stimulus check. If I were you, I would call the IRS or check out the website Internal Revenue Service to find out. It says if you don't file the form for 2007, you lose out! So, it doesn't hurt to check into it

We filed joint. I just went through the calculator today and entered all of my tax return info right from the forms I have from the accountant. The calculator is telling me we qualify for $900. So for DH, my DS, and myself... why is it lower? And, it says that the amount may be lower if we have unpaid taxes or something of that sort.

I think everyone should check out the calculator because its not good to assume you will get 1200 back. The letter sent in the mail from the IRS states "up to 1200". Hope that helps!

I work and DH is a SAHD. Turbotax told us we would get 1800, 1200 for married filing jointly and 300 for each kid.

Thanks so much everyone for responding to this post!!!!!!!!

My DH did TurboTax and he said it showed that we should get the $1200, plus $$ for our 3 kids at home. I'd be happy with anything, though. If we get it all GREAT......if not, we're not banking on it anyway......it sure would be a nice surprise!

I think everyone should check out the calculator because its not good to assume you will get 1200 back. The letter sent in the mail from the IRS states "up to 1200". Hope that helps!
It is based on your AGI, so that may be the reason, if you made too much you could be on the phaseout portion or if your taxable income was lower, it may also cause a lower credit. I am a SAHM, my husband works and we have 1 child, we are eligible for $1500. I was just letting people know that it did not matter how many people in the family had a job outside of the home, it is how you file.

This gives some examples: http://www.ustreas.gov/press/release...20examples.pdf
Hope it can help!

I work and draw a paycheck. We both have SS and we always have to file. Perhaps that will take care of it. We have a CPA file for us each year. I guess he'll look out for us. ;~)
