My DH showed this to me and I thought it was interesting so I decided to share! A very easy way to get started with saving.

You put $1 away the first week, the 2nd week you put $2 dollars, the 3rd week you put away $3, etc and just keep going week to week. On week 52 you put away $52 dollars. You can also do this the opposite (put in $52 week 1, $51 week 2, $50 week 3) if you happen to have more money at the beginning of the year instead of the end of the year.



If you stick to this every week at the end of the year you'll have $1,378! If you're not normally a saver this is a really great way to start!

I plan on doing this with dollar coins - it's harder for me to spend them. I'm also going to toss in whatever spare change I have in the hopes that they'll get lost beween the big coins and I'll forget about them. That stuff adds up!

This is awesome if you live paycheck to paycheck. That's how we used to be but then with couponing and strict savings/spending the last couple of years things have drastically improved. Even with all the set backs we had in 2012 like having to pay for emergency surgery (I fractured my elbow), DH being off for 6 weeks without pay taking care of me during recovery and then a last minute plane ticket home and another 1.5 weeks off work unpaid when DH's dad died we've been able to pay for it all out of savings without stressing about that money coming from our day to day expenses.

Savings really is so, so important.

Is Ally having any specials or sign up bonuses?

I've done ING Direct and American Express Serve - would highly recommend both of them.

No that i know of...i just always wanted to open (on side) account and never did it..my DD opened one last year and she really likes it,i didn't even think to shop around...Ally still has the best interest rate...

I made about $152 in "interest" opening various ING accounts and then DH and I earned $50 in "interest" with American Express Over $200 in interest in 2012!

With ING you could open with a minimum deposit (I did $5) and you have to make some small purchases within 30 days or something like that. Then I got a a $50 bonus for each account (DH and myself, plus savings accounts for the kids).

With American Express DH and I both opened separate accounts, deposited $25 each, earned a $25 bonus immediately, and then we immediately transferred the money back into our bank account. This all happened within hours.

So while I don't doubt the interest rate itself is higher it would definitely be worthwhile to sign up, get the bonus, and then get out and into an account with a higher rate.

I'm pretty sure American Express doesn't have any rewards or bonuses for signing up right now,and i really don't know much about ING...

I was very interested in participating in this when I saw it in Facebook a few days ago and posted about it in the 2013 debt payoff thread. I think its a great way to get started for those like myself who need to start small instead of big. :-)

I was also thinking you could alternate the high/low to spread it out more.

$52 Week 1
$1 Week 2
$51 Week 3
$2 Week 4
$50 Week 5
$3 Week 6
Etc.

That would work well for people paid bi-weekly!

I like this idea there is a week or 2 amonth depending how the days fall that we are short. Or if there is a week my hubby gets lots of ot.

I started with $52 in my ING orange account yesterday. It will be easier for me going backwards. Plus it looks like I am paying something off with the payment going down and could be inspirational to my commitment on the 2013 Debt Thread!

Me too, I have been going to the post office and getting money orders. I plan on giving them to my mom b/c she can tell me No and not hurt my feelings

I did also start with $52 but with Ally bank...is there any bonusses with ING...thanks...
