Can someone please share a typical shopping list with me? I want to cook more often. And it seems we have the same thing alot. I am starting Weight Watchers if that helps. Thanks

Let’s see. Usually have these on hand. Of course I don't need to buy them every week. I stockpile when these items are on sale. Apples, grapes (if on sale) and tangelos for fruits Mini carrots, potatoes and asparagus for veggies Loaf of whole wheat bread A few canned veggies and fruits to fill in the gaps Canned beans Soups 98% FF Cream of chicken or mushroom soups (casseroles) Chicken broth Cereal Whole wheat spaghetti noodles Jarred Spaghetti sauce Canned mushrooms Whole wheat rice mixes Couscous Instant mashed potatoes I can't believe it's not butter Skim Milk Eggs (egg whites are a great item for WW) Steamfresh veggies Lean Cuisines Salmon Mahi-mahi Shrimp Green Giant complete meals Shrimp Frozen gumbo veggie mix Frozen teriyaki veggie mix Frozen veggie soup veggie mix Whole chicken (great for backed chick one night and veggie soup the next) egg noodles Skinless, boneless chicken breasts Ham Ground Turkey Snack bars (Curves or Fiber One) Skinny Cow ice cream That's all I can think of for now... |

I usually shop "around the meats" - meaning I figure out what type of meat we'll have at dinner, then plan the meal & make my list around that (and the sales, of course). I have a main list in Word and just tweak it each week - I'll also type in the coupons I have beside each item so I make sure to get the right size, compare prices vs. store brand, etc). I usually get: 3 lbs of 93% lean ground beef (for spaghetti, tacos, etc) Pork chops Beef or pork roast Chicken Dried beans Then I'll get what we'll have with it: taco shells/seasoning or spaghetti noodles and sauce Shake & Bake or baking bags for the chicken & pork BBQ Sauce and Cream of Mushroom soup to make chicken/roast in the crock pot Frozen veggies - we love the Birds Eye Steamers - SO fast and taste like fresh! Bacon or "jowls" for making beans Fruits - bananas, apples, etc for snacking Nutrigrain bars for the teens' breakfast on the go Cereal if we need it Milk Eggs Cheeses Bagged salads Bread I work & my DD plays sports so we're pretty busy and I don't have lots of time to cook. So I make a lot of meals in the crockpot. I also have 2 teens still at home who are pretty picky. DH will eat whatever I put in front of him, pretty much. We usually have some variation of the "same thing every week" - usually tacos one night, spaghetti another, pork chops, roast, chicken... my kids are SICK of chicken. ![]() I've figured out that you can pour Ragu Spaghetti sauce (or your favorite) over pretty much any meat in the crockpot, cook it all day, and it'll be great! I've done this with beef roast and chicken and the family loves it. And you can't get any easier!

I always buy bananas and whatever fruit is a good price..>I try to mix it up. I try to stockpile meats and frozen veggies when theya re son sale. I also stockpile starches (whole wheat pasta, mashed potato packets, rice mixes2) when I can get them really cheap with a q. A few things I love to have on hand doing weight watchers is: ff cool whip very low points sugarfree jello 0 points fiber 1 bars- CHOCOLATE! 2 points a few cans of progresso light on hand - 0 points nature's own 40 calorie sourdough and wheat .5 points per slice artificial sweetener. I always have yogurt, some crackers, and applesauce cups for the kids

I agree with all the above posters, but I also keep a fairly large supply of various spices and seasonings on hand. The initial investment is alot, but they last forever. I always have the following: parsley nutmeg paprika(smoked and sweet) all spice bay leaves basil thyme cinnamon cracked black pepper old bay sea salt ginger cumin worcestshire sauce extra virgin olive oil(lots of it) Don't know if you like highly seasoned foods, but by keeping all this on hand, I can make a gourmet meal in a jiffy! |

Oh, and Bette is right. Add chili powder &garlic powder or fresh garlic to that. You can even get tubes of fresh herb paste in the produce section for $3 and they last a few months. I have not bought a chili or taco mix in forever. For chili I just do a ton of chili powder, garlic powder, and cumin. I actually do the same for taco meat. Salt to taste. For spaghetti mix you can just use tomatoes or tomato paste and then garlic, basil, oregago, or whatever Italian spices you like. This way you can dress stuff up without having to run to the store and pay 79 cents for a teeny little seasoning packet.
