They're never friendly anyway. I wonder though if it will increase theft since there's no one by the door watching and checking?

I would say they don't care about Sam Walton's opinion on creating hospitality anymore. Why bother when they are a big box store that treats couponers like criminals?

They are not getting rid of greeters. The greeters are simply being moved further inside the store and will ONLY greet. They will not check returns, check recipets, get carts, etc.... The idea is to go back to the purpose of a greeter, to greet the customers. I think it is a horrible decision and will only give walmart an even worse name that it already has.

A couple of the ones at the Walmart I usually go to are nice and try and greet everyone. I think the whole idea is a bad one, we all tend to ignore them anyway as we are already bombarded by people selling things outside or petition signature collectors. I don't see how them checking receipts is really doing anything really, its not like they pay to close attention. I mean really if someone is stealing they won't leave it in blunt view and the ones at this Walmart don't look if they have to move anything.

I didn't know they had gotten rid of the greeters, and a week ago I was going to take something back, so I stood in the front entryway waiting for someone to help me. Since I was returning an item from electronics, every time I got close to the scanner things it would set the alarm off. But I just kept waiting, until someone leaving told me they don't have ppl to check the returns anymore. Talk about embarrassing......

Thats not true in our Wal-mart. my cousin is a greeter ,inside the store and they do still scan returns, and receipts .on occasion get the shopping cart pulled out. I wish I had read this an hour ago, my DGson was here. he is a Wal-mart Assit. MGR.

I read all these posts about wal-mart and I can honestly say we don't have any trouble with couponing etc. We have 3 stores within an hours drive from us.

Yep. They did away with then at the door. They are still there though but their job now is to assist customers around the store in finding items. Theft will go up now that they aren't supposed to do receipt checks anymore

In my store only one certain greeter checked receipts, and only those of certain people. The old guy who did the return stickers took forever, now he's in lawn and garden!

Personally I don't think they served a purpose. Not anymore.

When I was a young girl our kcal Kmart had a greeter, my friend and I got such a kick out of him. He was English and would say cheerio when you came in, he'd smile and compliment you

My mom told me about this a few weeks ago. But, I had forgotten about it, until I went to the store in the next town over today and there was just a big sign where the greeter usually stands. I can tell you that this won't be happening at Sam's Club. My mom is a greeter there and someone actually has to be at the entrance and exit doors to check membership cards and receipts. Between the people who try to 'return' items they have just picked up in the store and all the expensive merchandise some of the cashiers don't ring up, it's cheaper for them to keep the greeters at the doors.

Our greeters here are pretty good about having a cart ready for you when you come in, though they don't always actually say .

Our stores don't even keep the carts inside anymore which is a REAL pain in the summer when it's 110 degrees!

My closest Walmart no longer has them at the door. I miss them. They were ALWAYS super nice.

When I lived in the south they were very nice -- some have even hugged me at the door. Love it! BUT, the great East Coast is different. No , thank you for shopping with us, can I help you, etc. Burns me up. What the heck are you standing there watching me come in for...Oh how I long for home!

Thank goodness! Not to be mean...but they always ask to check my coupon box (like I'm carrying in a bomb) and ask to see my receipt as I'm leaving. First of all I'm not stealing anything...second off I can never find it (because after glancing it over it always goes in one of the shopping bags).

I went to my Walmart today and the greeters usual area was empty but about 25 feet back, in the middle of an aisle was a guy who was 80 at least, sitting in one of those walker/seat things with just a name tag, not the greeter tag
I think it took every bit of his energy to lift his hand to wave.

Our store has still had a few greeters. At least two of the women are really friendly saying hi and smiling. But now they just stand there looking around.

My mom's friend used to be a greeter - she died last year and she was always so friendly. She had worked for the company for like 20 years and recognized people. She was the true defintion of a greeter talking to people.

It's been a couple of weeks since I've been into my favorite Walmart but the greeters were there handing out the stickers to the kids and just as friendly as usual. Maybe it's a regional thing that they're doing away with them. I don't know.

They totally did away with our greeters about a month ago. There's just a sign when you go in that if you have a return go to customer service with a big arrow. I'd like to know what happens when the theft alarm goes off now. There's nobody there to stop anybody so what good is the theft alarm anymore.
