What Do You Think About This?? Cashier Gave Me The Wrong Change.

I went to a local drive-thru today for a burger. This wasn't a national chain -- is truly a NC chain. They make the best burgers and shakes in the area (just by saying that the members that live near me should know what place I am referring to.)
Cost = $2.34

I handed the lady at the window a $20 bill and 0.34 in change.

She handed me my burger. She handed me a wad of bills.

I always count my change.

She had given me $17.00

Mistakes happen, right? I hadn't pulled away yet, so I looked at the closed window and looked and looked and looked. I can see the lady is busy taking another order. I continue to look. Finally, she looks at me and she opens the window.

Does she ask, "Do you need something else?" or "Can I help you?"

No. She said nothing. All she did was hand me $1 and close the window.

Wonder how she knew what my problem was??

Their burgers and shakes may be fabulous; but I am not tipping the employees for handing a bag out a window.

I think that you should go back to "Cook-Out" and get your money back!

That's just wrong. I would contact the manager.

Might want to call in and give the manager/owner the heads up ~ you probably aren't the only one it happened to! Figure if you do that to everyone all day and 3 or 4 people an hour don't catch it ~ nice little untaxed bonus!

But then again, maybe she dropped a single and saw it so she handed it to you ~ but I think I would offer an explanation!

well...either she realized her mistake at that moment and was busy with another order or she new what she was doing.

Hopefully she isn't try to slip a dollare out of people here and there. Sounds fishy, if you she knew what you wanted without saying a word.

When we first moved here, we had a problem with our Mcd's doing this. Every time you would go through the drive thru, your order would be off by exactly $1. Ends up the cashier was pocketing $1 off each transaction. Most people probably never even noticed or didn't want to go back for a buck. I sure did!

Can you imagine if she does this to about 200 people a day? Sometimes you are in such a hurry you don't count your change. It is really sad what some people do. There goes the saying honesty is the best policy.
