| Homemaker in search of advice on home-based jobs
I'm a happy mom of two boys and have the opportunity to stay home full time with them. I am, however, in the process of researching home-based work just to make a little extra on the side. Not interested in the data-entry work that requires money up front since I understand most of these are scams. I'm also not able to sell Tuperware or other such work since my husband is often gone in the evenings. I have quite a bit of business background, love to cook/bake, etc. Any helpful ideas you could offer would be really appreciated. Thanks! |

If you have a business background and love to bake and such, perhaps you could start a small business out of your home? I am envious of those stay at home moms that get those great ideas (like Baby Legs, Kozy Pals, etc) and make good money. I know some women who offer up their baking services via the newspaper, craigslist, etc for events like baby showers, wedding showers, etc. They bake cookies, desserts, appetizers, etc. Just throwin some ideas out

You could look into the local day care center's. Most working Mom's would love to have someone cook there dinner every now and then. Pass out small fliers. I work at a car dealership. Not really much of a lunch room in my building. So we eat out alot. Would be nice to have someone come by and drop off our food. We used to have someone like you. We could contact her with our lunch request, she brought it to us. Always paid her with cash. Also offer your shopping knowledge. Several people at work have told me that they would love to hire me to shop for them. That may be the kicker in there. Be a Ms. Jack of all trades. |

Thanks to both of you for your ideas...it helped to jumpstart my brain! Question though, did the lady that use to bring you lunch make it or simply pick it up from somewhere for you?

I would LOVE to go shopping for other people but how do you go about wording something like that in the paper and how much would you charge?

I have seen ads in my area for a "wife" to run errands for people like shop, pick up dry cleaning, even hang around the house for a repairman! I know people (pretty wealthy) who have used them.

About the sale of baked goods. If you are going to declare it a business, I believe there are health regulations about your kitchen. It probably varies from state to state, but that is something to research.

Oops, forgot to mention the wife/shopper charged by the hour and maybe gas as well. Sorry I don't remember it very well.

$10 an hour under table here and $20.00 an hour for business with gas included.
