LONDON (AFP) - Twins who were separated at birth and adopted by different sets of parents later married each other without realising they were brother and sister, a peer has told the House of Lords.

David Alton, an independent, pro-life member of the Lords, said the brother and sister were granted an annulment after a high court judge ruled that the marriage had never validly existed.

The identities of the twins and details of their relationship and marriage have been kept secret, but it was known they were separated soon after birth and never told they were twins.

They only discovered they were blood relatives after the wedding.

That's what I was thinking...this couple mistook a "twin" connection as a true love connection only to find out they were siblings. I can only imagine the hell they have gone through, so sad.

It's not that gross if you really think about it. They never knew that they were siblings and even if they had sex, then they did. Just two people who loved each other.

I for one am not shuddering and no, I am not married to my brother.

Well, I guess this sort of thing happens - especially in the case of abandoned children, orphans who don't know who their parents/sibilings are, and of course artificial insem*. children are apt to be too close of kin to be married. A whole new can of worms.

It would be interesting to know how it was discovered.

Honestly I DO feel sorry for them. I just know that I have 2 brothers, so I am looking at it from that point of view! Growing up and beating the heck out of each other......I remember being in a wedding with one of my brothers when we were really little. The photographer had him kiss me on the cheek for a cute picture. To this day I can remember how mortified I was!

I'm sure this happens a lot more often than we know. And I'm sure there are also people out there who don't have any problem with it.

I wish the two of them the best. Hopefully God can get them thru it.

I guess if I had sex with my brother and not knowing that he was my brother, it wouldn't have me mortified. I didn't grow up with him and would know. I guess it would be weird, but I sure wouldn't be freaking out or feel dirty.

Well to tell you the truth I could come up with quite a few RedNeck comments about this, But if you stop and think about it.....
These two were very innocent in the whole ordeal. It was NOT their fault that their Mother and/or Father didn't want them at birth, giving them no choice but to be Adopted out, nor was it thier fault that they were sent to live with two different families never to know each other. However it is a very slim coincidence that these two just happened to meet and fall in love to the point of Marrige.

Could it be that they grew up in the same town?

Did they go to the same school's with one another?

And the one question that is most on my mind is.....

Were they IDENTICAL TWIN?
(If so then why didn't someone question the fact that they looked so much alike?)

OK now that I've given all of you something to think about.
