my advice is to charge a little bit for them. people who are willing to pay for a dog are usually more likely to take care of it for the long haul. even like $10 each or something. i once had a purebred dog to give away but i place a for sale ad for $200 and when the people came to get her i said keep the $200 for vet bills, i just want to make sure you could afford them.

I would interview the people to be sure they are going to a good home. go to fhgrr.com a golden rtriver rescue site & look at their adoption requirements, it will help a bunch! Also ask for a donation to a rescue group or Humane Society as people who are true dog people will not bat an eye at it. Never advertise "FREE TO GOOD HOME." The AKC also has good tips. AKC.org

My parents have gotten their dogs from their vet. You can post flyers with info at a vet's office, even asking for references / referrals from the vet.

Like tootsie roll said, placing ads up at places like Vet offices are the best route. Putting ads in the newspaper, you have no idea where they are going and what kind of people they are. Good luck!

Lots of times people use free dogs for training dogs such as pit bulls for dog fighting. Too many people do not truly sit down and think of the responsibility that comes with having a dog. All of the suggestions listed above are great suggestions. You could also go to craigslist.org and pull up your city. You could list your puppies there for adoption for a small fee and let them know there will be an application/interview. You could even tell them that a home visit has to be agreed upon- of course if they agree to it, you do not have to necessarily ever do it- but just letting people know that you are that serious about who the puppies go to and ensuring they are truly wanting a puppy is a good step! Good luck!

Oh, how I wished I lived closer to you. We've been thinking about getting a dog. OK....I have. But I'm sure as DH saw your sweet little puppies, he would melt. He's an old softie when it comes to animals. Everyone gave great suggestions. Good luck!

Oh man, I'd take one but we got a dog a few weeks ago... go with your gut when you meet the people... if you are unsure about giving the dog to someone then don't. Good luck.

lochelle... you can put them on a plane and send them to me! No ... my DH would kill me. My friend just got a dog off of freecycle and the people brought the dog to her to make sure it connected with her and her family before they took it. I don't know if you want strange people coming to your house so if you have the time I would offer to set up a meeting the people and their possible new pup to make sure they all connect. Talking to people over the phone can be quite deceiving from what they are like in person. Everyone on here on great ideas.

I would never take a yellow lab at all. Sorry. I took one from a neighbor who couldn't handle her at 3 months. She has been a handful. I never thought that any dogs could act like this one. I do love her, but at times she is on my most hated list.Make sure that the people who take the puppies are ale to give the puppies exercise now and for at least 2 years. Plus make sure they know that these dogs love to chew. I have lost an ipod and a $50 cable due to my "puppy" chewing.
