Holiday Traditions

I have several Holiday Traditions that I do every year:

Place a lighted candle in the window (battery operated now) to help someone find the way home to their family or friend or back to God.

Contact the USO and have several far away from home service men or women join you for your Christmas Celebration (been doing this since 1957, when my cousin joined the Marine Corps.) He would bring atleast 6 other Marines home with him and not just on Holidays, sometimes we would have a house full every weekend. My cousin is now into his seventies and often tells the stories of his weekends and our house.

My Dads family gets together on Christmas Eve, we always have. My Grandfather passed away in '86 when I was 3 months old and he made everyone promise they would still get together on Christmas Eve so that his kids could be with their families on Christmas Day.

Moms family is more of a Christmas Day bunch, an afternoon lunch or early dinner.

I have so many memories from getting together with my family for Christmas.

I love your idea with the USO, its so great!!

I am starting a tradition of my own this year( DD's first x-mas) ...... I want her to understand the meaning of X-mas from an early age, so I am going to bake a cake and sing happy birthday to Jesus, and eat the cake for breakfast ( only a small bite for Eliza this year though! ) . I think this will be an easy and fun way for her to understand what is going on ( not this year of course) .
