| What is your best THRIFT store find?
I just came back from my local thrift store and found in my exact size, brand new with tags, "Sevens" jeans for $24.99 (reg. price $150-$200). They even have subtle rhinestone detailing on the pockets. So cute! Very excited because I love the fit of these jeans and could never pay retail for these! What is your best thrift store find?

I'm a regular thrift store shopper, so it is kinda hard to pick just one item as my "best" find...But I have to say, I've found a lot of decent items to be used as Rocky Horror Picture Show costumes. Not so much lately, of course, times change. But I think my pride and joy are all the late 1800's books I've found. Again, same thing -- I don't find them much anymore. It ticks me off something awful, that thrift stores have become hip to books -- they don't sell many anymore. The big chain thrift stores, such as Salvation Army, actually have a "book store" online, where they sell their books for much more now >:[ Same thing with better clothing items as well, which is why I haven't gone to many thrift stores as of late... I can understand the OLD books. But darn it, the selection at the actual stores get smaller and smaller! I kinda rely on thrift store books, because I read extremely fast -- we're talking a 300 page book in one hour or less, so it is NOT very cost effective for me to be buying NEW books all the time...And I really do love to read.

I think my best find was 2 skirts. I dont know if anyone knows of the Quaker Factory clothes? I got my two skirts one is green with blue whales at the bottom and the other is apricot color with pinkish butterflies at the bottom. The whales and butterflies are suppose to be hand done. I paid a $1.25 for eash one. The store was having a half off sale. They are so comfortable too!

For me , it would have to be my son's dresser. It cost me $150 & it is a beautiful solid , piece of furniture. I would have paid at least $700 if I had bought it new somewhere.

I found a 1 3/4 X 4 ft. piece of white marble with gray veins along with an antique buffet and an antique top of a china cabinet (Michigan made, I'm told) and it was all $400 but it was half off day and it all ended up being $200! I love the Salvation Army thrift store!

Alas, I live in PA. But maybe you could contact your local Legal Aid and give them a suggestion on a fund-raiser for them...that would benefit you too. |

My MBT hiking boots - brand spanking new, retailing around $250. Found them for $20 and almost died - then got to the register and heard a cheery "women's shoes - 50% off today."

| Oooh, I love hearing about Thrift Store finds....
Let's see, I've have some duds over the years but some of my best are: 2 Framed, matted, and signed P.Buckley Moss prints that were $5 for one and $10 for the other. I sold the smaller one about 14x14 for $175 and the other one is worth $375 30" framed that still hangs on my living room wall over the couch. A vintage Peter Frampton concert shirt from the 70's that I bought for 75 cents and sold for $75. A vintage Sesame Street puppet of the character Roosevelt Franklin that I bought for $1 and sold for $120. 14 rare U2 CD single imports that sold for anywhere between $50 and $150 a piece. I don't do the thrift stores since I started couponing as much as I did in the past, but luckily I have a pretty good eye for the weird and know alot of original pop culture stuff when I see it, so I usually do pretty well. |

I found a $200 Averix kids leather jacket for $4.50 in excellent condition, a photobook with case of postage stamps and postcards, paid $.49, sold it for $85. I buy to resell from Goodwill and Goodwill outlet all the time. It's my way of being able to stay at home with my son and support my shopping habit, .

Well I love to go book shopping at thrift stores, and I agree with another poster that it can be limited sometimes, it seems that the thrift stores I go to go back and forth with how many books they display, sometimes they decide its not worth it and only have a few out, other times they have a big selection, it's always back and forth . I also like to go to library sales, you can get some great book deals there when libraries are getting rid of their old ones...and garage sales too....Recently I was computer monitor shopping at a thrift store because my monitor is acting funny, I got 2 monitors for 49 cents each! They were having some special saturday sale on all green tag items! All of those were just 49 cents! Since I have no need for a fancy flat screen monitor, just one that works, this was fine with me! Also picked up a brand new still wrapped Scattergories for 5.99! I would have liked it for a little cheaper, but still this is a great price for a brand new game! I have been wanting to get this game, played it in the past and loved it, and happened to see it there. Much better than paying 20 or 30 bucks!! |

| I am in Asheville,NC.One of our store is a huge place. It has an education learning center,a regular goodwill sore and a clearance store section in the back were you pay by the pound. The clearance section is were they get donation of stuff they just put it in huge bens. They do not sort by size. All clothes are put in bens. Its lookes like they just pour bags of clothes in there. You have to sort thru them.It takes time but, its well worth it.There is a section for clothes, books, furniture, house wares, glass goods, ect. I have found some nice stuff.Never seen a 50% off days at the regular store.I do alot of resales.
